Most of the YouTube Users, even some computer geeks think that youtube videos are low quality. I also think they are not up to the mark but I was wrong. As you know YouTube is owned by Google and how is it possible that Google provides you low quality videos? They are providing low quality videos just because there are users who didn’t have good internet and tons of bandwidth.
There are few methods through which You can watch best quality videos If you have high speed internet connection.
1-URL Hacking Technique
Simply add the &fmt=18 at the end of a normal YouTube URL and see if it loads in matter of seconds, If there’s a high quality version available, that extra string will cause it to load otherwise it fails. I have tested this trick on more than 30 youtube videos and I was able to watch about 10 high quality videos.

6.1 Unpack the parts.
Find a flat, clean surface to unpack the parts. Carefully unpack the parts, grouping similar ones together. Take care not to bend or damage any parts during unpacking. Keep shipping papers and documents for 3 months. Keep the instructions permanently in a plastic bag or suitable folder.

If you want to have good reception and clear pictures, the dish antenna must be carefully assembled to ensure a precise parabolic shape. Any distortion or twisting of the shape will reduce the effectiveness of your reception. Take care not to bend or damage any parts during assembly.

Important: During assembly tighten the bolts and nuts loosely with fingers only to save time in the final stages.

Assemble the dish antenna, in the following order:

Important: The mesh is attached to the frame with plastic buttons (or hooks / screws), some of which can be used ONCE only . To remove a button, it would need to be cut off, and could not be used again.

Great care needs to be taken to insert a button only when the mesh is in the correct position. In cases where the buttons pop out, they may be replaced at regular intervals with self-tapping screws (with small heads) or possible small bolts.

TIP: In high wind areas, place beads or strips of silicone glue on the ribs before attaching the mesh.

Check that each section or the rim or edge is the same distance from the flat surface, then tighten all the bolts and nuts. (Important: DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN BOLTS, as this could cause the dish to be distorted or the threads of the nuts or bolts to be damaged.

Check the shape
After assembly, turn the dish to face upwards and carefully “sight” all the way around, along the rim, (with your eye at the level of both the near and far rim) to check that the rim is straight. If not, the dish is warped and needs correction by loosening the bolts and re-setting.

TIP: Tape two pieces of string from one rim to the opposite rim at right angles to each other. These strings should touch very lightly. If the strings are separated where they meet, or too tightly together, the dish rim is not in line and the shape is not correct.

1) The feedhorn / LNB must be centred on the dish. This may be done by carefully measuring from the rim to the throat of the feedhorn from 4 different sides and adjusting the feedhorn until all measurements are identical.

Another way would be use two pieces of string as in Section 6.3. Ensure that they touch lightly exactly in the centre of the dish. The point at which they cross should be the centre, which should be visible in the centre when looking at them through the feedhorn.

2) Mount the LNB in the Scalar Ring. See Picture 20.

6.4 LNB Setting
At this stage, there are two critical settings on the LNB. It is easier make these settings now, but they could be done after the dish has been mounted on the pole, together with the settings described in Section 7.4
These settings are:
1) f/ D ratio (precise distance or focal length from centre of dish),
2) Offset of the LNB (degree of rotation),

Setting No 1 (The focal length)
The focal length is the distance from the deepest point in the center of the dish to the front of the feedhorn on the LNB. On the Acer LNB this is 30mm inside. Others may vary. To start with, look for the markings on the side of the LNB and set the focal length in the middle of these markings. You can fine tune later.

For technical specialists: Refer to the instructions for your dish to obtain the correct focal length. If you do not have the instructions, you may need to use the formula below, where D = diameter of dish, d=depth of dish (measured in the center from the face to deepest point). Use a piece of string drawn tightly across the center of the face from one rim to the opposite rim to get an accurate face position. The focal length is = f

The formula is: f = D x D / 16 x d.
Example: D = 2.3m and d = 0.375m. f = 2.3 x 2.3 / 16 x 0.375 = 5.29/6 = 0.882m

Setting No 2 (The degree of rotation or polarization offset)
NB: On polar mount dishes, the 0 - 180° line should be parallel to the polar axis.

On fixed dishes, the polarization offset needs to be set on the LNB, which
is usually marked on the top with settings of 10, 20 30 and more degrees. See Picture 21. This should be measured assuming 0 degrees is at the 12 O’clock position (pointing straight up).

What is C-band?C-band is a range of satellite transmission frequencies that TV and radio channels use to transmit to full-size satellite dishes.
How many channels can be received with a full-size C-band satellite dish?Full-size satellite dishes provide more viewing choices than any other TV delivery system, including cable. More than 250 channels transmit on a regular basis and another 250 transmit on an occasional basis. The "500 channel universe" is a reality with a full-size dish.
How big is a satellite dish?The size of the satellite dish you should buy depends on where you live in the United States or Canada. In the Central United States, you can use a dish that has a diameter of between six and eight feet. On either coast, an eight to ten-foot dish is recommended.

(b) a plurality of antenna panels engaged between the ribs to form a dish having an anterior surface adapted to face the transmitter and a central axis adapted to symmetrically align a central point on the dish with the transmitter, each antenna panel formed of a microwave reflecting material and having a front surface, a rear surface, an inner edge oriented toward the central support means, an outer edge oriented away from the central support means, and opposed side edges extending between the inner edge and the outer edge of the panel, the opposed side edges of each panel received in the edge grooves of adjacent ribs such that the side edges of the panels are held between the top and bottom walls of the grooves, the front surface of each antenna panel being curved such that the anterior surface of the antenna as defined by the front surfaces of the panels is concave.
2. The dish antenna of claim 1 further including a peripheral ring which is generally round and has an inner surface generally oriented toward the central support means; and wherein each rib is of equal length and is generally coplanar with the central axis; and wherein the outer ends of the ribs are secured to the inner surface of the peripheral ring. 3. The dish antenna of claim 2 wherein the peripheral ring has ring grooves which receive the outer edges of the antenna panels. 4. The dish antenna of claim 1 wherein the opposed rib grooves of each rib closely approach each other; and wherein the edge of the antenna panel engaged by one groove of each rib terminates close to the edge of the antenna panel engaged by the second groove of the rib so that the transmissions which pass between the adjacent edges are minimized. 5. The dish antenna of claim 1 wherein the rib sheath is constructed of polyvinyl chloride plastic. 6. The dish antenna of claim 1 wherein the antenna panels are constructed of stainless steel mesh. 7. The dish antenna of claim 1 wherein the antenna panels are formed of an expanded, flattened aluminum mesh. 8. The dish antenna of claim 1 wherein the rib support members are made of steel. 9. The dish antenna of claim 1 wherein the central support means is a metal hub plate with a parabolic surface; wherein each rib is bent in a parabolic curve; wherein each antenna panel has a front surface forming a sector of a parabolic surface; and wherein the anterior surface of the dish as defined by the antenna panel front surfaces is generally parabolic. 10. The dish antenna of claim 1 wherein the channel in each rib sheath has laterally straight borders that underlie a portion of the groove bottom walls in parallel relation; and wherein the support members have rigid laterally straight surfaces that underlie and support the groove bottom wall. 11. A support rib adapted for use in a dish antenna structure comprising:
(a) an outer sheath of flexible, resilient plastic material transparent to microwaves, having grooves along the side edges thereof defined by top and bottom walls, and an inner hollow channel in the sheath extending along its length beneath the grooves therein; and
(b) a rigid inner support member fitted within the inner channel in the sheath to strengthen the rib and limit the longitudinal flexibility of the rib.
12. The support rib of claim 11 wherein the channel in the sheath and the support member are both rectangular in cross section with one side of the support member underlying a portion of the groove bottom wall. 13. The support rib of claim 11 wherein the rib sheath is formed of polyvinyl chloride. 14. The support rib of claim 11 wherein the support member is made of steel. 15. A kit for making a dish antenna structure comprising the combination of:
(a) a central hub;
(b) a plurality of peripheral ring segments adapted to be joined to form a round, peripheral ring which has an inner surface with a radius larger than the hub;
(c) a plurality of support ribs adapted to be spaced in a radial manner around the central hub, each having an inner end adapted to be secured to the hub and an outer end adapted to be secured to the peripheral ring, an outer sheath of flexible, resilient plastic material transparent to microwaves, having grooves along the side edges thereof defined by top and bottom walls, a hollow channel in the sheath extending along its length beneath the grooves therein, and a rigid support member within the channel in the sheath to provide structural support therefor;
(d) a plurality of antenna panels adapted to be engaged between the ribs to form a dish having an anterior surface adapted to face a transmitter and a central axis adapted to symmetrically align a central point on the dish with the transmitter, each antenna panel having a front surface, an inner edge adapted to be oriented toward the hub, an outer edge adapted to be oriented toward the peripheral ring and opposed side edges extending between the inner edge and the outer edge and adapted to be received by the edge grooves of adjacent ribs;
(e) means for securing each rib to the hub; and
(f) means for securing each rib to the peripheral ring.
16. The kit of claim 15 wherein each rib is of equal selected length and is adapted to extend from the hub to the peripheral ring; and wherein the front surface of each antenna panel is curved such that the anterior surface of the dish is concave. 17. The kit of claim 16 wherein the hub has a parabolic surface; wherein each antenna panel is curved to form a sector of a parabolic surface, wherein the support ribs are curved parabolically, and wherein the peripheral ring has a groove in its inner surface adapted to receive the outer edges of the antenna panels. 18. The kit of claim 15 wherein two rib grooves of each rib closely approach each other; and wherein the edges of the adjacent antenna panels are adapted to be held within the two grooves of each rib such that they terminate close to each other. 19. The kit of claim 17 further including a probe mount adapted to be secured to the central hub and to extend anteriorly therefrom; and a pickup probe adapted to be located on the probe mount in a position to effectively receive transmissions reflected from the antenna panels. 20. The kit of claim 16 further including a mounting bar which is adapted to mount to the hub to support the dish. 21. A method of forming radial dish support ribs comprising the steps of:
(a) providing a straight but flexible plastic rib sheath which has an inner longitudinal hollow channel therein along the length thereof;
(b) providing a rigid metallic support member which is fitted for insertion into the inner channel in the sheath;
(c) bending the support member to a selected generally parabolic curvature; and
(d) inserting the support member into the inner channel in the sheath, thereby curving the sheath to form a rib in the desired parabolic shape.
Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Field of Invention
This invention relates to antennas adapted to receive transmissions from communication satellites which orbit the earth, and in particular to dish antennas.
2. Background Art
The antenna dish provides a relatively wide surface for capturing satellite radio frequency transmissions and is often shaped parabolically to focus parallel intercepted microwaves upon a pickup probe to provide an augmented signal to the antenna user. Such shaped dishes have commonly been formed of stamped sheet metal (e.g., aluminum or stainless steel), either as one piece units or, for larger antennas, of multiple parts that are assembled on site. Dish antennas have also been formed from a plurality of wedged-shaped antenna sections of metal mesh which are capable of reflecting the transmitted radio waves and which are supported in the dish shape by rigid radial ribs. The ribs are appropriately shaped such that the antenna sections are held in position to form a parabolic surface. Dish antennas formed of sections of metal mesh allow light to pass therethrough, and thus may be more aesthetically acceptable than a solid sheet metal antenna. The metal mesh also allows air to pass through, resulting in a lower wind load than would exist in a solid antenna of the same size. A particular advantage of mesh antennas over solid metal dishes is that the mesh antenna can be shipped in pieces in compact packages whereas the solid dishes are extremely large and bulky, requiring special handling procedures, and consequently are expensive to ship.
While the performance of mesh antennas is generally comparable to solid dish antennas, it has been found that the supportive rigid ribs, which are made of metal, are capable themselves of reflecting microwaves. The surface of the metal rib section at the joint where the rib engages the mesh is typically displaced from the surface of the mesh. As a consequence, the microwaves reflected from the metal ribs may be slightly out of phase with the microwaves reflected from the metal surface. Because the supporting ribs must be of high strength and resistant to corrosion when exposed to weather, the ribs have typically been constructed of expensive high strength aluminum or stainless steel.
It is desirable to connect the antenna mesh sections to the supportive ribs without unduly stressing the mesh sections. Connection has been accomplished by fitting the edges of the mesh sections into longitudinal grooves located along the metal ribs. However, the panels generally cannot be tightly fit into the grooves in the metal ribs, and connectors, such as screws, are required to hold the mesh to the ribs.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The dish antenna structure of the present invention has wedge-shaped and sheet-like antenna panels, preferably formed of metal mesh, and radial support ribs which firmly engage the edges of the antenna panels to hold the same in the desired dish configuration. Each of the radial support ribs has an outer sheath of plastic material, e.g., polyvinyl chloride, which is flexible, resilient, and resistant to weathering by exposure to rain, wind and sunlight. Structural rigidity and strength is provided to the rib structure by an inner metal, preferably steel, support member held within a channel in the outer sheath. The metal member provides high strength and rigid support for the entire rib structure, enabling the rib to be produced at relatively low cost. Since the outer plastic sheath protects the inner metal member from contact with rain, the metal need not be corrosion resistant, and may be a common and inexpensive structural material, such as mild steel.
In a preferred form, the side edges of the rib sheaths have longintudinal grooves sized to admit the side edges of the wedge-shaped antenna panels and tightly engage the same without requiring other connectors.
The radially extending ribs are joined at their inner ends to a central support hub, which itself is preferably parabolically shaped, and are connected at their outer ends to a circular, peripheral ring, formed of a rigid, corrosion-resistant material such as aluminum, which is attached to the end of each radial rib and holds the same firmly in the desired position in the dish.
A particular advantage of the rib construction of the present invention is that the material of the rib sheath is transparent to microwaves. Thus, microwaves incident on the portion of the rib sheath which extends above the adjacent mesh panel will pass through the rib sheath and reflect off the panel, with no substantial difference in the phase of the reflected microwave off the panel under a portion of the sheath from microwaves reflected off of adjacent portions of the panels. The edges of adjacent panels fitted into the grooves in a rib terminate at positions closely adjacent to one another, with only a small break between the adjacent panels. Thus there is only a very limited amount of phase distortion of the reflected microwaves occurring because of this spaced joint.

FIG. 8 is a perspective view of a section of the outer peripheral ring portion of the antenna.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
With reference to the drawings, a preferred embodiment for a dish antenna structure constructed in accordance with the invention is shown generally at 10 in FIG. 1. The structural elements of the preferred dish antenna structure 10 include a plurality of uniformly constructed ribs 14 of selected length and a plurality of sheet-like antenna panels 18 also uniformly constructed. The ribs 14 and the antenna panels 18 are alternately spaced in a generally radial manner to form a dish 21. The dish has an anterior surface 11 adapted to face a transmitter, such as a communications satellite, and a central axis adapted to symmetrically align a central point on the dish with the transmitter. Each antenna panel 18 is preferably wedge-shaped, as best shown in FIG. 6, having a front surface 22 generally forming the anterior surface 11 of the antenna, a rear surface 24 oriented away from the anterior surface, an inner edge 25, an outer edge 26, and two opposed side edges 27 and 28.
Each rib 14 has an inner end 32 and an outer end 34. As best shown in FIG. 1, the inner ends 32 of all ribs are preferably coplanar where they are joined to a central support hub 30. In the preferred embodiment the hub plate 30 has holes 31 which are used to bolt the ribs in place, as is more fully explained below. Other means for centrally supporting the ribs, such as fixing the ribs to a central ring, will be evident to those skilled in the art. Each rib 14 extends outward in a generally radial direction from the hub 30. The hub 30 is curved, preferably in a parabolic fashion. The outer end 34 of each rib 14 is oriented away from the central support hub and is secured to the inner surface 36 of a circular peripheral ring 38.
Each antenna panel 18 is located with its inner edge 25 toward the support hub 30, its outer edge 26 away from the support hub, and its two opposed side edges 27 and 28 each oriented toward an adjacent rib 14. The antenna panels 18 are curved such that the anterior surface 11 defined by the front surfaces of the panels is generally concave. Preferably, each rib 14 is bent in a parabolic curve, the antenna panels 18 are shaped in sectors of a parabolic surface, and the dish anterior surface 11 is thus generally parabolic. This enables the antenna to most efficiently reflect and focus incoming radio frequency transmissions upon a point at which a pickup probe 39 may be located.
As shown in FIG. 2, each rib 14 in the preferred embodiment has a sheath 37 which has an inner hollow longitudinal channel 40 along the length of the rib. A rigid support member 42 may be fitted within the support channel 40 to strengthen the rib 14, as shown in FIG. 4, and to restrict the longitudinal flexibility of the rib. As shown in FIG. 3, the support member 42 may be bent, preferably in a parabolic curve, to define the curvature of the surrounding sheath 37.
The support member 42 is constructed of a strong material, such as steel, which provides most of the structural support for the dish antenna structure. As shown in FIG. 4, a first end 41 of the support member 42 may extend outward from the support channel 40 at its inner end and includes holes 47 through which the support member may be bolted to the hub 30. The inner end 32 of each rib 14 may thus be secured to the hub 30 by using the support member 42. In the preferred embodiment of the rib 14, rib grooves 44 are located longitudinally along the length of the ribs 14 and are used to connect the ribs to the antenna panels 18. The side edges 27 and 28 of an antenna panel 18 are respectively received by the rib grooves 44 of adjacent ribs. Each rib groove 44 has a bottom wall 45 and an opposed top wall 46 which engage the antenna panels 18 to hold the panels within the rib grooves, as shown in FIG. 5. Because the outer sheath of the rib is formed of a material (e.g., polyvinyl chloride) which is flexible and resilient, the rib groove walls can tightly engage the edges of the antenna panels inserted into the grooves. In the preferred embodiment, both the support channel 40 and the support member 42 are rectangular in cross section, with one face of the rectangle underlying a portion of the groove bottom walls 45 in parallel relation. Thus, a laterally straight border of the support channel 40 underlies a portion of groove bottom wall 45, and a rigid, laterally straight surface of the support member 42 underlies and supports the groove bottom wall 45, thereby enhancing the tightness with which the antenna panel side edges 27 and 28 may be engaged.
As shown in FIGS. 2, 4 and 5, the outer end 34 of the rib 14 is preferably angled. Similarly, the second end 43 of the support member 42 is also angled. As shown best in FIG. 5, the ends 34 and 43 are angled such that they generally meet the inner surface 36 of the peripheral ring. As also shown in FIG. 5, the ring 38 preferably has a peripheral ring groove 48 which receives and holds the outer edges 26 of the antenna panels 18. The ends of the ribs 14 may also be secured to the peripheral ring 38. In the preferred embodiment a bolt 49 is affixed to the outer end 34 of each rib and extends through support holes 51 located in the peripheral ring 38 at its junction with each rib 14 and is engaged with a nut to secure the rib in place.
The sheath of the rib 14 is made of a material which is transparent to microwaves. Because the rib sheaths are transparent to microwaves, the distortion of the microwave signal reflected by the dish is minimized. As shown in FIGS. 2 and 4, the opposed rib grooves 44 closely approach each other so that the edge 27 of one antenna panel engaged in a groove on one side of the rib terminates at a position closely adjacent to the edge 28 of the adjacent antenna panel engaged in the groove on the other side of the rib. This arrangement minimizes the spacing between the edges of the panels and the distortion produced by microwaves which might pass through the gap between the edges of adjacent antenna panels and reflect from the inner support member 42 to the pick up probe 39. Since the material of the sheath above the edges of the antenna panels is transparent to microwaves, it does not introduce phase distortions in the reflected signals.
The rib sheath 37 is also preferably corrosion resistant and waterproof, allowing the inner support member 42 to be constructed of strong but corrosion prone materials such as steel. In the preferred embodiment, the rib sheath is made from polyvinyl chloride, and the support members are made from steel.
The peripheral ring 38 may be formed in segments, allowing more convenient shipment, and in the preferred embodiment is constructed in two segments which are joined by segment connectors 50 bolted to both segments using bolt holes 52 and spanning the joint between them. The peripheral ring segments 38 are preferably constructed of a rigid, corrosion resistant material such as aluminum.
The antenna panels 18 are preferably constructed of an expanded, flattened, aluminum mesh. Other suitable materials may be substituted. For example, stainless steel mesh or other corrosion resistant material capable of reflecting microwaves may also be used for the antenna panels.
As shown in FIG. 1, the preferred embodiment includes a mounting bar 53 which is rotatably mounted to the hub 30 such that, when the mounting bar is fixed in position in the ground, the orientation of the dish may be adjusted. The antenna also includes a probe mount 54 secured to the central hub 30 and extending therefrom such that the pickup probe 39 may be located on the probe mount in a position to effectively receive microwaves reflected from the antenna sections.
While the dish antenna structure is shown assembled in FIG. 1, it is commonly shipped to the user's location in kit form. Each part in the kit is, of course, adapted to relate to the others as described above.
The outer sheath 37 can be formed from a continuous plastic extrusion having the cross-sectional shape shown in FIG. 2 and can be cut to the desired lengths for the ribs. The extruded plastic sheaths are formed straight but the sheath is sufficiently flexible to assume the curve of the support member 42 as the support member is inserted into the support channel 40. The support member 42 itself may be formed of straight hollow tube stock which is bent to a selected parabolic curvature in a press. The step of extruding the rib sheath is preferably carried out using a commercially available apparatus for extruding plastic such as polyvinyl chloride. The bent support members 42 may be manually inserted into the straight rib sheaths which distort as the support member is inserted to assume the desired parabolic shape for the rib.
It is understood that the invention is not confined to the particular construction and arrangement of parts herein illustrated and described, but embraces such modified forms thereof as come within the scope of the following claims.

How do you build a Parabolic dish?
While it is difficult to build a parabolic shape with a large amount of precision (in the absence of expensive machinery), there are a few tricks which allow anyone to build a crude parabolic dish.
One method is to cut out a two dimensional parabolic shape from some rigid material and then use it to help you model some three dimensional shape (out of aluminum foil or chicken wire, for instance). The focus of the parabola is located at the point (0,p) where .
Although it is more difficult to implement, nature provides us with a far more accurate way of obtaining a parabolic shape. If a body of water is in a rotating container (and the liquid and the container are rotating together at the same speed), the surface of the water takes the shape of a near perfect parabolic shape. The focus of the parabolic shape depends on the rate of the rotation and also on the density of the liquid (if you were using something other than water). This approach is probably more interesting for those interested in the optics of parabolic shapes.

Transmitting Dish: A satellite dish is just a special kind of antenna designed to focus the signals on a specific point. The standard dish consists of a parabolic (bowl-shaped) surface and a central feed horn. To transmit a signal, a controller sends it through the horn, and the dish focuses the signal into a relatively narrow beam. The curved dish reflects energy from the feed horn, generating a narrow beam. Receiving Dish: The dish on the receiving end can't transmit information; it can only receive it. The receiving dish works in the exact opposite way of the transmitter. When a beam hits the curved dish, the parabola shape reflects the radio signal inward onto a particular point, just like a concave mirror focuses light onto a particular point. In this case, the point is the dish's feed horn having an LNB installed, which passes the signal on to the receiving equipment. In an ideal setup, there aren't any major obstacles between the satellite and the dish, so the dish receives a clear signal. In some systems, the dish needs to pick up signals from two or more satellites at the same time. The satellites may be close enough together that a regular dish with a single horn can pick up signals from both. This compromises quality somewhat, because the dish isn't aimed directly at one or more of the satellites. A new dish design uses two or more horns to pick up different satellite signals. As the beams from different satellites hit the curved dish, they reflect at different angles so that one beam hits one of the horns and another beam hits a different horn. The central element in the feed horn is the low noise blockdown converter or LNB. The LNB amplifies the radio signal bouncing off the dish and filters out the noise (radio signals not carrying programming). The LNB passes the amplified, filtered signal to the satellite receiver inside the viewer's house.

Background
A satellite dish is a parabolic television antenna that receives signals from communication satellites in orbit around the earth. Its sole function is to provide the television viewer with a wider variety of channels.
The first communications satellite—Echo I—was launched by the United States in 1960, transmitting telephone signals. In 1961 Relay began transmitting television signals, and in the same year Syncom established itself as the first geosynchronous satellite capable of transmitting signals to one particular section of the earth's surface continuously.
The rapid advances in communication satellite technology were not simultaneously matched by advances in satellite dish use and technology. Television broadcasting began with individual stations that could only serve a limited area. Television networks had to provide their affiliate stations with recordings of programs if they wished to provide nationwide service. Satellite television was not widely available until the 1970s, when cable television stations equipped with satellite dishes received signals that were then sent to subscribers by coaxial cable. By 1976, there were 130 satellite dishes owned by cable companies, and by 1980, every cable television station had at least one satellite dish.
About that time personal satellite dish earth stations were selling for approximately $35,000 per unit. Taylor Howard, an employee at Stanford University who was well-versed in the usefulness of satellites as relayers of data, is credited with designing the first satellite dish for personal use. Howard's dish, which was placed into operation on September 14, 1976, was made of aluminum mesh and was about 16 feet (5 meters) wide. By 1980,5,000 satellite dishes had been purchased for home use. In 1984 alone 500,000 were installed. Recent reports state that there are 3.7 million owners of home satellite dishes worldwide, and the number will continue to grow.
A typical commercial satellite dish of the 1970s was made of heavy fiberglass, and the dish itself, at its smallest size, had a diameter of about ten feet (three meters). Since then, satellite dish design has shifted toward light-weight, aluminum mesh dishes (similar to Howard's homemade dish), some of which are inexpensive and small (three feet, or one meter, in diameter is typical), with many sections (petals) that can be easily assembled. England, Japan, and Germany, have led the way with direct broadcast TV, which sends signals directly to the viewer's dish, but the United States has yet to do so. This trend would yield smaller, more affordable satellite dishes and regulated satellite programming.
Raw Materials
The basic satellite dish consists of the following materials:
A parabolic reflector made of fiberglass or metal, usually aluminum, with a protruding steel feed horn and amplifier in its middle.
A steel actuator that enables the dish to receive signals from more than one satellite.
A metal (usually aluminum) shroud measuring about 6 to 18 inches (15 to 45 centimeters) in height. It is installed on the dish's circumference perpendicularly to reduce side interference.
Cables, most likely made from vinyl tubing and copper wiring.
The Manufacturing Process
1 To make fiberglass suitable for dish manufacture, a sheet molding compound mixture that includes reflective metallic material and ultraviolet scattering compositions is mixed with resin, calcium carbonate, and a catalyst cure. This mixture forms a paste that is poured onto a sheet of polyethylene film that has fiberglass added in chopped form. The result is a sheet layered with the compound paste, fiberglass, and the polyethylene film.
2 This sheet is then pressed at 89 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius) to mature. To shape the sheet into the desired parabolic shape, it is pressed at high pressure (of 1,400-2,200 metric tons). The dish is then trimmed, cooled, and painted. After the paint has dried, the dish is packed for shipment in sturdy boxes.
3 For metallic dishes, the common metal of choice is aluminum. This type of dish can be assembled in sections called petals, or all at once. An aluminum plate is perforated with a punching die, creating tiny holes. The size of these holes are contingent on the manufacturer's preference. Larger holes mean greater loss of the signal, so fairly small holes are selected. Another factor in the selection of hole size is the power of the broadcasting satellite. Newer, more powerful satellites require a hole size that is approximately half that required for older, less powerful satellites. The newly perforated aluminum plate is then heated, stretched over a mold, cooled, and trimmed. A paint powder coating for protection is then applied using an electrostatic charge, in which the paint is given an opposite electrical charge from the plate. The dish or petal is then heated to melt the powder and seal the paint on. The petals are usually sealed together with ribs in the factory.
4 Mesh petals are made from aluminum that is extruded—forced into a die of the proper shape. They are usually joined together on site by sliding them into aluminum ribs that attach to the hub and then securing them with metal pins.
Installation
5 All dishes, when complete, will have the necessary equipment (the feed horn, the amplifier, etc.) installed in the factory. When the dish has been set up at the local dealer, it is transported to the site location on a open trailer. Satellite dishes can be installed either by professionals or by the purchaser, with assistance from the retailer if necessary. The method selected depends upon the size of the dish and the mechanical expertise of the purchaser.
6 An installation site reasonably clear of obstructions not more than 246 feet (75 meters) from the house is selected. Site selection is also contingent on local building codes and the possibility of microwave interference from radio and television towers in the vicinity. Once a site is selected, the base must be installed first. The base of most satellite dishes consists of a concrete foundation that extends below the frost line. A clayey soil is excellent, while sandy or rocky soil requires more concrete. A base tube filled with concrete is then set into the concrete foundation.
Some satellite dishes require a slab mount installation, a method considered to be more stable than typical base construction. In some cases, slab mount installation is necessary since the site selected for the placement of the satellite dish is unstable. The slab is generally 1.6 feet (.5 meter) square and 3.2 feet (1 meter) deep. Soil is excavated to the proper depth and the concrete is poured. A triangular steel mount fixture is then embedded into the concrete.
7 Next, the pedestal is attached to either the base tube or the triangular steel mount fixture. The elevation arm is then attached to the pedestal.
Alignment
8 The mounted satellite dish must be aligned in order to point toward the satellite. The angle at which the dish is eventually situated will vary according to which satellite is selected and at what latitude the dish is located. Coaxial cables connect the satellite to the receiver that is located in the house near the television. A trench must be dug for these cables, which are placed into a pipe before being buried.
Quality Control
Satellite dishes for consumer use are not usually required to undergo rigorous tests with set standards, but some parameters are generally met. For example, so that the microwaves are received properly, the surface of the dish should be as smooth as possible and its parabolic shape should be exact. It must also be composed at least partially of metal, otherwise the microwaves will not reflect. If the dish is either mesh or perforated aluminum, the holes must be relatively tiny to minimize loss. Dish size is important; it should match that appropriate to the latitude. The mount should be sturdy, and the dish aligned properly for maximum reception.
Members and joints are tested and compared to the American Steel Construction Institute or the American Aluminum Association methods rules, whichever apply. The satellite dish should be built to withstand high winds, snow, ice, rain, and extreme temperatures.
After the dish is installed, the owner is generally responsible for cleaning it twice a year, more if necessary, tightening and lubricating all bolts once a year, and trimming obstructive weeds and trees from around it. In rare occasions, the owner must adjust the alignment to correct bad reception.
The Future
Satellite dishes will become ubiquitous in upcoming years. More communication satellites will certainly be launched, and the growth explosion in individual satellite dish ownership will continue. One factor that should affect home satellite dish ownership in the near future is the switchover to more powerful satellites that will transmit signals in the K band (12 GHz). Because most of the present satellite dishes accept signals in the C band (3.7 to 4.2 GHz), owners of C band satellite dishes will have to convert them to K band. Researchers and designers are contemplating even smaller dishes that could be placed on a rooftop or outside a window and still function as well as the larger satellite dishes of today.
Some experts see the growth of satellite television as a revolution that is less concerned with crystal clear images of old sitcoms than with the possibilities of two-way communication that universal dish ownership would promote. Satellite television will be used to pay bills, shop, and participate in game shows. It can also be used to communicate over long distances, perhaps to play interactive video games with someone halfway across the continent. Some visionaries see the revolution as the return of one-on-one communication like that of a town meeting. In any case, it is almost certain that satellite television will continue to proliferate in upcoming years.
Manufacturers will continue to make smaller and less costly satellite dishes. Recently, for instance, 18-inch (45.7-centimeter) diameter dishes have been introduced into the market in Japan, Europe, and the United States. These dishes are small enough to fit on a windowsill or a porch railing. Manufacturers are also working on producing a flat-plate dish for satellite signal reception.

Hajra Hayat isn’t out there to create a bang or hoopla. She isn’t one of those to stick out a feather, expose a leg or come up with crazy colour combinations just to attract attention and establish herself as a fashion “visionary” simply because she’s also not a fortune teller — she is a designer who designs for the ‘now’.Hajra Hayat is known to design outfits that are “wearable” as her outfits are always aesthetically pragmatic. Despite several innovations, in a show this Lahore-based designer held in Karachi recently, it was evident that she hasn’t deviated much from her design philosophy.Rang De, the official title of the Hajra Hayat Winter 2008 bridal wear collection was shown, at the onset of the wedding season, in collaboration with Shehzad Roy’s Zindagi Trust. After speeches relating the objective and ideology of the Trust, including one by Roy himself, those present were treated to a performance by him to three songs, two of which were performed live with his guitarist Imran Akhund.Of these, one was a cover of a Beegees classic re-made by an equally popular cover by Boyzone, Words. As much as this scribe appreciates Roy’s inherent love for the song, covering a classic and performing it is an intimidating feat in itself and unfortunately, Roy simply lacked the ‘soul’ needed to make his cover of it his own. He then performed his most popular song to date, Sali, disappointingly on DAT. Thankfully, it was the last song performed by him and the Hajra Hayat Rang De fashion show finally kicked off.The opening segment showed a white, western-inspired collection. There was no over-the-top embroidery or embellishments; the line was simple, with elegantly cut shirts over straight-pants or capris. For a moment it seemed as though Hajra had toned down for her showing in the city but not for long. The embroidery and bling increased as the show advanced. The predominant colours Hajra has played with in the collection are white, pink, red and blue. Most of the saris that were shown carried deep-cut blouses at the back with intricate embroidery done around the borders and across the back as well.An interesting combination was a red and blue bridal outfit, a combination which has been a tad overdone but was manageable in this case. What stood out from the bridal section was a simple white, lightly embellished, long-skirted outfit worn by model Faiza Ansari with an equally simple dupatta over her head. The outfit was perfect for the more untraditional bride looking to separate herself from the norm. Another eye-catching outfit was a pink-bloused red ghaghra worn by Sunita Marshall with a pink border towards the hemline of the ghaghra with circular mirrored-disks bordering it.At this point one has to mention that out of all the models Faiza Ansari seemed to be having fun. She swirled her pink sari when walking the ramp adding a little bit of extra ‘oomph’ to it. On the other hand, despite having seen Nadya Hussain several times on the runway, and despite being tall and beautiful to look at, she unfortunately does not understand the importance of a good posture or timing when strutting down the ramp. She walks while leaning oddly backwards, resulting in her lower body leading the way with her upper body following. She also tends to walk painfully slow, disregarding the pace that the other models were keeping or even the overall beat of the song being played. Despite having been around for quite some time, Nadya is desperately in need of lessons on how to walk on the runway.Another interesting thing to note was that most of the people attending were not from the local fashion fraternity, they were socialites and individuals from the corporate sector, people who are genuine buyers of designer-wear outfits.Overall, the collection wasn’t over-the-top or a work of a creative genius. It was, however, creatively done with outfits which people could actually wear (as opposed to ‘just see’). The western-inspired line was a welcome addition and since it seemed to be fused with certain eastern cuts as well, one can be sure these would be ideally suited for the youth of today – the ‘Minglish’ speaking crowd. If simplicity in design is the hardest thing to carry, then Hajra Hayat carries it really well.

MUMBAI: If word is to be believed, there’s going to be a new Bachchan in town soon… Baby B to be more precise. Yes, the most beautiful woman in the world, Aishwarya Bachchan, is reportedly expecting and Abhishek is gonna be a dad. Amitabh Bachchan, meanwhile, is going to be the grand-daddy of them all! There are already three ABs in this power family — Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Bachchan, and when BT had asked Abhishek in an earlier interview whether he would name his child with the alphabet A, he had said, “That’s actually a cool thought. I haven’t thought about it, though.” And on plans of starting a family, he had said, “Kids shouldn’t be planned. They should just happen.” So, if the couple is indeed expecting their first child, all we can say is ‘Here’s to Baby B!’ The couple tied the knot on April 20 this year.

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday dismissed petitions against the ban on the transmission of Geo TV channels as not maintainable. The Independent Media Corporation and Bird (Pvt) Ltd had challenged the ban on the transmission of Independent Media Corporation and Bird (Pvt) Ltd by the government.The SHC’s division bench comprising Justice Munib Ahmed Khan and Justice Dr Rana Mohammad Shamim dismissed both the petitions being non-maintainable on the ground that under the Provisional Constitution Order and emergency rule, the petitions were not maintainable under the Article 199 of the Constitution because many fundamental rights were suspended.The petitioners’ counsel, Mohammad Ali Mazhar, argued that on the last date of hearing, the deputy attorney general had raised two points that Geo News was off-aired from Dubai and a similar petition by an individual had been filed in the Supreme Court and on the above grounds, further time was sought by him. He submitted that in spite of availing many chances, no comments have been filed by the respondents. He said now both the objections raised by the DAG on the last date had become irrelevant and insignificant because the Dubai Media City had already restored the transmission of Geo News and the petition filed by one stranger in the Supreme Court of Pakistan had been returned to him with the office objections that the petitioner before the Supreme Court was not an aggrieved person; secondly the scope of Article 184 (3) had been curtailed under the PCO and emergency. It was further argued by Mohammad Ali Mazhar that being an aggrieved person, the jurisdiction under Article 199 of the Constitution was still available to the petitioners. The petitioner has obtained landing right licences from Pemra against the payment of valuable licence fees which are still valid and without issuing any show-cause notice or written order, the transmission of channels have been suspended verbally which is an illegal act, he contended.The counsel argued that articles 18, 4, 2-A of the Constitution were not suspended under the PCO and being a commercial organisation, the right to business was still available to the petitioners without any hindrance and obstruction. At present, he said, petitions have nothing to do with Article 19 of the Constitution, which relates to the freedom of expression, speech and press. He said verbal ban on TV channels was totally unlawful and against the articles 18, 4 and 2-A of the Constitution of Pakistan. The bench asked the petitioners’ counsel as to how the petition was maintainable in view of the PCO and emergency when certain fundamental rights had been suspended including Article 19. He reiterated, in response, that Articles 18 and 4 of the Constitution were not suspended and in support of his argument, he relied upon the full bench judgments of the Supreme Court of Pakistan pronounced in the Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari and Zafar Ali Shah cases in which it had been held that in spite of the PCO or emergency, the Article 199 will remain available to an aggrieved person and the right of judicial review of superior courts was not curtailed. The counsel also read to the court and differentiated the scope of Article 199 and Article 184 of the Constitution. Regarding the validity of verbal order, he also relied upon another judgment of the SC in which verbal cancellation order of an allotment of plot was declared illegal by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. It was further argued by the petitioners’ advocate that this action of respondents was also against Section 24-A of the General Clauses Act, which makes it mandatory for the respondents to inform the reasons of suspension and also allow opportunity of hearing to the aggrieved persons. The additional advocate general, who was on court notice, relied upon a condition of landing right license and said that in emergency, the authority might suspend the license. The petitioners’ counsel submitted that this condition was irrelevant in the present circumstances where except the Geo TV’s four channels, all other channels banned on the same day with Geo TV had been now restored and this condition was not applicable to Geo only. He further argued that even applying this condition, it was necessary for Pemra to issue show-cause notice or reasons to Geo TV channels but except a verbal direction to cable TV operators nothing was communicated in writing. The act of Pemra, besides being discriminatory, is also a serious violation of Section 24-A of General Clauses Act and also against Pemra’s own laws, rules and regulations. Mohammad Ali Mazhar submitted many other foreign origin channels were being relayed even in emergency situation and Geo – a Pakistani origin channel – was under suspension. On this provision, the bench also asked the additional advocate general that how even in an emergency, a channel could be suspended without any written order or notice, to which no response was given by him, except saying that the petitioners had accepted the terms and conditions of license hence they had no right to challenge it. The petitioners’ counsel, in response to this argument, argued that the petitioners did not only accept the terms and conditions of their landing right licenses but also accepted all Pemra laws but the present action of suspension of Geo TV transmission was not supported by any Pemra law, rules or regulations and was also against the principle of natural justice. He further submitted that by these petitions, the PCO or emergency had not been challenged but it was urged that the petitioners were lawful licensee and Pemra being a statutory body should act and treat the petitioners in accordance with the law and their right to business had been seriously infringed by the unlawful ban. The court observed that on the one hand the DAG took the plea that the government took no action against the petitioners and on the other he stated that the attorney general for Pakistan himself would advance arguments against the petitions. The bench asked DAG Rizwan Ahmed Siddiqui as to what was the actual stand of the government. However, after hearing the arguments, the court dismissed both the petitions on technical grounds. It was the sixth date of hearing on Tuesday and after at least more than 23 days, the bench dismissed the petitions as being non-maintainable under the PCO and emergency, while no written comments were filed by the respondent in spite of availing many chances. The petition was filed in the superior court the other day by Qazi Sheharyar Iqbal, advocate, praying the apex court that the blocked TV channels should be allowed to start their normal operations so as to enable the people of Pakistan to enjoy their right of choice of information and freedom of speech and expression. The petition was filed under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, making the Federation of Pakistan through the secretary Ministry of Information and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) through its chairman as respondents. 105 dead in Parachinar

The army has moved into Parachinar to stop ongoing clashes. The death toll in the four-day clashes between two rival groups has risen to 105. Hospital sources have confirmed that more than two hundred are injured. NWFP Governor has said that the situation has been created to divert the government’s attention from the Swat operation. A 16-member Jirga from Hangu has also reached Parachinar to convince the two sides to end the fratricidal clashes. Witnesses say that army has been moved in certain areas of Parachinar. Announcements were made from the mosque loudspeakers asking people to stay inside as army have been given shoot-at sight order. Local say an army helicopter also straffed miscreants who remained outside in spite of these warnings, killing two people and injuring six.Most of the people have confined themselves to homes as shelling continues in the area. Food shortages have been created due to the closure of the locals markets. Locals are without electricity since Friday and there is no traffic on the roads. The areas worst-hit by clashes include Balichkhel, Sadda, Arwali, Pewar and Trimangal.

Justice (retd) Shiekh Ijaz Nisar has taken oath as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Justice (retired) Abdul Qadir Halepota has been sworn in as the caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh and Sardar Saleh Mohammad Bhootani has taken oath as caretaker Chief Minister of Balochistan. In Lahore the ceremony was administered by the Governor of Punjab, Khalid Maqbool. Along with the caretaker CM, seventeen members of the cabinet also took oath.
In Karachi, a fourteen-member caretaker cabinet also took oath for the Sindh cabinet. In Quetta, the Governor of Balochistan, Owais Ahmed Ghani, administered the oath to the CM and eleven members of the provincial cabinet.Caretaker chief ministers are taking oath of their offices in three provincial capitals following the completion of five-year term by the provincial assemblies.
In Lahore, the caretaker CM Nisar declared that forthcoming elections will be transparent. Security Forces recapture key area in Shangla District

Security forces have captured Shariat Bridge in Tehsil Ghorband of Shangla District early this morning. Local sources say the army crossed the bridge early morning and is advancing towards Alpuri townl which is still under the control of the militants.
Military spokesman General Waheed Arshad has confirmed that the bridge, which was being controlled by the militants has been captured. He says the security forces are moving fast towards the militant’s stronghold of Alpuri Headquarters in Alpuri Tehsil. He did not confirm any causality in today's fighting.
A spokesman for the militants said that fighting is continuing in the mountainous area of Belay Baba for the sixth consecutive day. Security forces are using heavy artillery and gunship helicopters against the militants in the area.
Meanwhile, the security forces also pounded different areas in Tehsil Kabal and Matta last night. There are no reports of any causality in the last night attacks.

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed five out of six petitions challenging the legality of President Musharraf's re-election. The Court adjourned the hearing till Thursday to hear the lone petition and decide the matter. Attorney General Malik Qayuum says notification of President Musharraf’s next term will be issued after Thursday. In a day of dramatic developments, the judges took exception to the application filed by the main petitioners, Justice (R) Waijhuddin Ahmad and PPP leader Makhood Amin Faheem. The petitioners cast aspersions on the bench which prompted the judges to hit back with threats of contempt proceedings. The petitioner’s council later withdrew their applications. Amin Faheem also withdrew his main petition, while Justice (R) Wahijuddin’s advocate on record refused to withdraw his petition. That petition was later dismissed by the court due to non-prosecution. One of the judges, Justice Faqir Khokar, observed that the elections of the President have been held and he has been elected, so why should he not be allowed to take oath. Attorney General Malik Qayyum submitted before the court that the petitioners were trying to malign the court. When Jusitice Wajihiuddin’s advocate on record said it was the court under PCO, Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar observed that the same was case in Syed Zafar Ali Shah’s case. The President’s council, Sharifudin Pirzada submitted that due to the circumstances in which the petitioners are withdrawing, they should not be permitted to do so. The Court at one point threatened to ruin Amin Faheem’s political future. At least a couple of judges observed that if they include a line in their judgment that Amin Faheem has committed contempt, then he could be disqualified from contesting elections under article 63 (G). Earlier in the day, a seven member bench heard petitions challenging emergency and PCO. One of the petitioners council Irfan Qadir concluded his argument while another Barrister Zafar-ullah started his arguments in which he accused President Mushraff of unleashing terrorism on the constitution. He also said that the proclamation of emergency and PCO was unconstitutional.

Musharraf not out of woods yet: Benazir

WASHINGTON, Sept 28: President Pervez Musharraf is not out of the woods yet and the real challenge to him will come after the scrutiny of his nomination papers, says former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

“This is a temporary reprieve and the real test will come when the nomination is challenged,” said Ms Bhutto while commenting on the Supreme Court’s decision on Gen Musharraf holding of two offices. In an interview with Dawn, Ms Bhutto said the judgment was expected to favour Gen Musharraf because the petitions filed against him dealt with an old issue, whether he can hold the offices of the army chief and the president together. The Supreme Court, she said, left it to the Election Commission to determine the eligibility of Gen Musharraf to contest once again for the office of the president while continuing as the army chief.

“If the EC decides in favour of Musharraf, there will be fresh legal challenges in the Supreme Court. The old challenge was not a serious work, the next will be,” she said.

She said the old petition pertained to the validation that has already been given to the president. The new challenge, she said, would follow the scrutiny of the nominations papers. The EC is already perceived to be under the presidency’s pressure, and recently amended a disqualification clause relating to Gen Musharraf, so it would likely decide in his favour, she added. “Then the candidates will go to the Supreme Court to challenge that decision, given that he is still a government servant and does not fulfil the mandatory lapse of two years after retirement, the petitioners will have a valid ground.”

Asked how Friday’s decision would impact the progress towards democracy, Ms Bhutto said it would affect it adversely, leading to a fresh period of uncertainty. This uncertainty, she said, would also be exploited by the militants trying to create a civil war in the country. The preoccupation with legal challenges, she added, would divert the government’s attention from real issues.

It was a majority (six-three) verdict by a nine-member bench headed by Justice Rana Bhagwandas.

The bench threw out the petitions challenging the dual offices of the army chief and the president held by Gen Musharraf, declaring that these were not maintainable. In other words, the merit of the cases which had been debated for two weeks along with the issue of maintainability, became irrelevant as the majority of judges dismissed the challenge by declaring that the petitions could not be entertained at this forum.

Microsoft has released an updated version of Office Mobile for Windows Mobile 6 phones and PDAs. The biggest change is that Microsoft has added support for Office 2007 documents.

It kind of baffles us that Microsoft would release Windows Mobile 6 around the same time as Office 2007 and not automatically include support for docx, pptx, and xlsx documents, but it's nice to see Microsoft catch up with itself here.

This is the first time that Microsoft has issued an Office Mobile update directly to consumers. Typically Office Mobile is built into the Windows Mobile operating system and is only available from hardware makers.

Office MObile 6.1 also includes:

* Enhanced charts in Excel Mobile
* Ability to view SmartArt in PowerPoint Mobile
* Ability to extract files from zipped folders

The tables have turned from hacking your computer, to hacking your virtually stored information. Supposedly hackers are not seeing the benefits of attacking your protected and firewalled computer these days, and are much happier to go after hacking Web 2.0 API's. Such is the case in a recent exposure of a critical process that executes a filter looking for specific incoming emails, sending them to another email address for snooping and prying. The filter would be in place until the Gmail account owner deletes it from the Settings>Filter menu.

Gnucitizen broke the news on this, and it has been verified by a few sources. He is not planning on demonstrating this process, or releasing more details on findings until Google has fixed this concern. He is also urging that others do not expose anything until they have notified Google and a fix is implemented. But does say that the hacks are out in the open for anyone searching Yahoo or Google.

TruPhone demonstrates VoIP-over-WiFi on iPhone

TruPhone, the UK-based creator of VoIP least-cost routing tools for cell phones, is demonstrating the first implementation of VoIP calling over WiFi on Apple's iPhone. The demonstration is occuring at DEMOFall in San Diego. The solution uses the SIP protocol, so TruPhone users can call each other from the iPhone, or call the outside world using SIP or the public telephone network. This will allow TruPhone users to reach Gizmo Project users, for example.

This announcement is significant as VoIP calling from the iPhone was previously not possible, even with Apple's own iChat (which on Mac desktops enables VoIP chat. So TruPhone's offering will satisfy an enormous demand and increase the value of the iPhone's WiFi hardware dramatically.

Searching for a song you can add your own drum magic to? Kompoz is the place. The site allows you to upload what you have of a song, and then allow others on the site to add things to it. You can also search through songs on the site and add your own special touch to the songs that you find. Kompoz currently has musicians registered from over 60 countries and 24 different time zones, so you have the opportunity to collaborate with a truly diverse group of people.

Each song has its own page where you can see each version of the song that has been uploaded as well as who had added what to the track to make it what it the song it is today. Each song also has a discussion board attached where you can talk with other people on how the project is going. Once your project reaches its final stages it can also be added to Kompoz Radio a podcast featuring songs created on the site. You can also embed a player on your personal website that shows all of the different versions of your song. Believe it or not, the site actually has some pretty good songs out there now. Even if you're not a musician yourself it can be interesting to the original drum track that was uploaded to the site, and then hear the song a dozen different people managed turn it into.

Let’s look at your computer first. You will need a minimum of a Pentium II 300 or faster, a minimum of 256 Megs of RAM, but you will get better performance with 512 Megs. If, like me, you have ideas to discuss, issues to rant about, photos to share, and books and films to recommend, you'll want to answer this question: how can you share all your creative genius with the world without being a web designer and building your own Web site?
Millions of people (myself included) have discovered that the answer is blogging. A blog (shortened form of 'web log') is a type of Web site for the individual - a space on the web where you can share your ideas and life experiences. There are two fundamental differences, however, between a Web site and a blog:
1. You don't have to design a blog, you just need to choose a space.
2. A blog isn't a static space—it is designed to be regularly updated.
The key is that a blog constantly moves forward, whether you update once a week or three times a day.
A blog gives you easily accessible (and free) space on the web to have your say, even if you want to keep your thoughts private. The decision is yours whether to keep your comments for your eyes only, share them with a select group of friends or simply let anyone in the world read them, if they're interested. If you choose to 'go public' you will find you are taken much more seriously as a blogger if you update regularly. The blogging community gets bored quickly if you don't keep up.
If you set up your own blog (a quick and easy process—as you will see later), you will need to decide what theme you're going to give it, or rather, how you're going to make it work. This can be the hardest part of the blogging process, but it's worth some consideration, especially taking into account the amount of blogs where even the writer gets bored and stops contributing!
In short, think about what you want to achieve before you get set up. Why not browse other blogs first to see what you like, and what you don't.
Step by step
1. First of all, I had to choose a blog tool. There are loads of free blog tools available on the Web, but at the very least, your choice should allow you to:
o easily type and submit entries
o easily receive feedback from people who read your blog
o post photos
o create a personal profile
o browse profiles of other bloggers
I decided to go with blogger.com, as it allowed me to do all of this, and looked simple to use.
2. Next I had to create my blog account. This involved the usual username and password drill, giving my blog a name, and then choosing a page style from a large selection of templates. Clear instructions took me each step of the way through the process, and within five minutes I was the proud owner of my own blogspot.
3. Now that I had created my account, I was left with nothing more than to post my first blog. I typed my latest thought into the empty text box, chose a font and hit 'Publish Post.'
4. I then chose the option to view the published blog in a new window so I could see what I had just posted. It looked clean, professional—and expectant!
5. The easy bit was now done. Now it was up to me to start regular postings and generate some interest in my work. Suddenly my outlook on life shifted perspective. What to share? What to keep private?

Want to set up your own blog, but you're short on creative ideas? Try asking yourself the following questions:

How to set up your PC to edit home movies?

I recently bought a portable video camera recorder (or camcorder) and used it for the first time to record the places I visited on my last summer holiday.
If you use a camcorder, today's movie-editing software offers you more control than ever over the final look of your home movies. You can cut, edit and add effects to your home movies to share with family and friends as a reminder of special occasions like birthday parties or holidays.
When I returned from my summer break, I wanted to transfer the movie to my PC and edit together the best moments. Here's what I did:
Step by step
1. First I had to make sure I could transfer the movie I wanted to edit from my camcorder to my PC. I connected the camcorder for the first time to the PC using a compatible cable and then switched both pieces of equipment on.
2. When my PC started up it displayed a message saying it had detected new hardware. The window containing the message also asked if I wanted to load the relevant software and I clicked 'yes'.
Most camcorders are sold with a CD that contains the software needed for the computer to recognize and control the camcorder. Your PC will already have some camcorder manufacturers' software pre-loaded, so you might not need to use the CD provided.
The "New Hardware" wizard prompted me to insert the CD containing the camcorder software into the CD-ROM drive. I loaded the software onto the system following the prompts in the New Hardware wizard.
3. The wizard told me I had successfully installed the software and automatically opened a 'My Computer' window (also found in the 'Start' menu for Microsoft Windows*-based systems) which showed all the drives connected to the PC's system. I knew my PC had recognized the camcorder because an icon with the camcorder's name appeared alongside the other icons in this window.
4. Next I needed some movie editing software, so I searched on the Internet. I decided to use Adobe Premier Elements* because it is designed for beginners and comes with tutorial-based help. I then paid for and downloaded the software, and learned the basic editing techniques by watching the tutorials.
5. I launched the editing software on my PC and opened the file that contained my raw footage.
6. I used the editing tool in the software to cut the footage into scenes. The software also allows you to view individual frames. I then selected the scenes and frames I wanted to remove, and deleted them using the backspace key.
Next I added a title, scene transition effects and closing credits using the 'insert' and formatting tools. I found the 'undo' command was a real help in avoiding errors in the final edit, and the 'zoom' control was particularly useful for checking aspects of an individual frame.
I didn't add background music, even though the software makes it easy to do. That's because I want to share the movie by putting it on a public Web site, and I did not want to breach the copyright restrictions on the tracks in my music collection.
If you want to add music to a publicly shared movie, try an Internet search for 'royalty-free music'.
7. Finally, I decided to save an electronic copy of the film as well as burn it onto DVD so I could play it anywhere with a compatible player.
After I finished editing, the editing software prompted me to save the finished movie, and it asked me which format I wanted to save it in. First I saved it as an 'MPEG' (or electronic movie file) and then chose the option to write the file to DVD. When I did this, the software prompted me to insert a blank DVD into my DVD-R drive. Once I had done both, I was ready to share the best parts of my trip in whichever format was easiest for my friends and family.

How to build a modded PC
If, like me, you're into computers, you might be interested in PC modding. If you've seen articles or been to trade shows, you'll know that computers today are more than just beige boxes. Now they're a vehicle for creativity, complete with neon lights, LEDs, UV lights and UV reactive cords, not to mention crazy cases.
This guide isn't about creating a work of art: it's about building a good-looking PC using parts that you can buy in stores. And if you're into gaming like I am, why not strike some fear into your gaming partners by showing up with a tricked-out PC?
I went to my local computer shop, told them I wanted to build a modded system and asked them what I needed. In fact, there are a huge number of choices, so they asked what I wanted to do with the system. My answer: "I want a machine that looks cool and can be used for casual gaming."
I decided to go for the Intel® Core™2 Extreme processor and selected an Intel® Desktop Board 975XBX.
The next decision was what I wanted the PC to look like inside and out. In the end I chose a black case, but the decision was tough. I would have liked a case with extra cooling—in this case a duct that directs cooler air from outside the case right to the processor. My case didn't have that, so I ended up buying some extra fans. (To check the different temperature zones of most new Intel Desktop Boards, download the Desktop Control Center utility.)
Hardware checklist
Not every processor will work with every motherboard. Not every motherboard will fit in every case. If you're not sure what components you need, ask the salespeople to help you pick the right components. You can also use the Motherboard & Barebones Selector Guide to help you.
So, let's get shopping. You will need:

Before you start, remind yourself that a computer is really a pretty simple thing. You can break it down like this:
Power comes from the power supply and goes to all the drives and devices.
The drives send and receive information to the processor through the motherboard.
Data is output to your video and audio sources.
Now let's get down to business.
Step by step
1. Install the power supply
o If your case doesn't come with a power supply, buy one with a high wattage rating (500W isn't too much). Remember, you'll be powering a lot of lights and fans.
o Installation was easy. Just four screws. But the power supply's wires look intimidating (there must be more than 30). Don't be put off. Just check where all the wires lead to and connect them systematically. The manuals that come with your equipment should help.
2. Install the motherboard
o I opened the case and laid it down in the best position for installing the motherboard.
o I got out the motherboard, being careful to use my anti-static wrist guard, and checked out all the parts. You never use them all. My motherboard came with a cool front panel with extra USB ports, headphone and microphone jacks and a FireWire port. There was also a port panel for the back of the case.
o The mounting hardware for the motherboard came with my case. I got all that out in front of me.
o I took out the rear 'dummy' plate in my case where the motherboard's rear ports need to go.
o I gathered the mounting riser pins that came with the case. It wasn't clear where these were supposed to go, so I laid the motherboard in gently to figure it out. I then screwed in as many riser pins as I could. You want your motherboard to be very secure and well supported when you start pushing in components.
o I laid the motherboard down on the riser pins and attached it with the screws.
3. Install the processor, heat sink and RAM
o Most people are surprised at the small size of a computer's CPU. It's also very delicate, so use an anti-static wrist guard when handling the processor.
o I read the instructions, paying careful attention to how to correctly position the processor and insert it so I could get it right first time. Many sources suggest you install the processor and heat sink before installing the motherboard. This is probably to prevent damage to the motherboard if you press too hard. So be careful however you do it.
o Next came the heat sink. This is huge in comparison to the processor. It has a large fan on the back. To install it, I positioned it over four plastic clips and pressed down firmly to snap all four clips over the heat sink's base.
o I secured the heat sink by tightening the black locking screws that came with it.
o The heat sink's fan of course needs power. Referring to the schematic, I connected the fan's three-pin power connector to a header on the motherboard.
o I had two 512MB modules to install for a total of 1GB of memory. My board had four memory slots. The motherboard's directions used color to indicate which slots get filled first.
4. Connecting the ports, drive and cards
o I installed the front panel USB/FireWire ports that came with the motherboard. I had a choice of a black or white cover to match my computer. (I went with black, of course.) Then I followed the diagram to correctly connect the ports to the motherboard.
o While I was there, I followed the instructions for connecting the front panel lights and power button to the motherboard.
o I installed the floppy drive/card reader. The built-in reader is a smart idea that gives floppy drives a new role.
o To install the DVD/CD-RW drive, I opened the other side of the case. It was the only way I could secure the drive properly.
o Then I attached the two serial ATA hard drives in neighboring bays.
o I connected power feeds from the power supply to each of the drives.
o I connected all the drives to the motherboard, following the schematics. The serial ATA drives use a small cable to connect to each other and the motherboard. There are no jumpers to worry about. Each drive connects with its own serial ATA connector.
o Then I installed the graphics card. It was a PCI Express* card that had to be connected to the PCI Express bus.
5. Installing the lights
o Now for the fun part. The lights plug into the extra power connectors from the power supply. You can daisy-chain the lights, but don't put more than two lights per outlet as they will only shine dimly. That's why a big power supply is handy: more power equals more lights.
o I bought cable sleeves and ties to make everything neat and tidy. I closed the case, plugged in the computer and connected the keyboard, mouse and speakers. It was time to flip the switch.
o This was the moment of truth—and everything worked!
6. Installing the operating system and setting up RAID
o Unlike a PC you buy from your computer store, a homemade one means installing the operating system yourself. I inserted my Microsoft Windows* XP Professional CD into the DVD/CD drive. It didn't boot. No mystery there. The BIOS was set to boot on the floppy drive. I went into the BIOS and set the primary boot drive to the DVD/CD drive.
o I rebooted and the computer began to load Windows XP Pro. I mentioned before that I bought two serial ATA hard drives. The reason for doing this was so I could set them in a RAID configuration. (RAID, by the way, stands for Redundant Arrays of Independent Disks.) During the setup, Windows asks you if you have RAID drivers to install. I clicked "F6" for yes and followed the instructions.
o I decided to go with RAID 0. This allows my computer to read and write data in parallel from both drives. With two drives recording or throwing out data at the same time, RAID 0 delivers better storage performance and faster data transfers than a single drive. A RAID 1 setting, on the other hand, protects against drive failures by mirroring all the data between the two drives. This is a good feature as well, especially if you're storing family photos or other irreplaceable data on your computer.
No need to go into more detail about setting up Windows. Lots of sites provide great information on that. Microsoft has made it pretty automatic. It took about an hour, but went very smoothly.
I like gaming, so I was looking forward to showing off my new machine. Modding can turn your computer from a passive, humming box into something dynamic and expressive. Now, when I play a game or work on the computer, all kinds of lights go off as elements of the hard drive are activated.

Before you start, remind yourself that a computer is really a pretty simple thing. You can break it down like this:
Power comes from the power supply and goes to all the drives and devices.
The drives send and receive information to the processor through the motherboard.
Data is output to your video and audio sources.
Now let's get down to business.
Step by step
1. Install the power supply
o If your case doesn't come with a power supply, buy one with a high wattage rating (500W isn't too much). Remember, you'll be powering a lot of lights and fans.
o Installation was easy. Just four screws. But the power supply's wires look intimidating (there must be more than 30). Don't be put off. Just check where all the wires lead to and connect them systematically. The manuals that come with your equipment should help.
2. Install the motherboard
o I opened the case and laid it down in the best position for installing the motherboard.
o I got out the motherboard, being careful to use my anti-static wrist guard, and checked out all the parts. You never use them all. My motherboard came with a cool front panel with extra USB ports, headphone and microphone jacks and a FireWire port. There was also a port panel for the back of the case.
o The mounting hardware for the motherboard came with my case. I got all that out in front of me.
o I took out the rear 'dummy' plate in my case where the motherboard's rear ports need to go.
o I gathered the mounting riser pins that came with the case. It wasn't clear where these were supposed to go, so I laid the motherboard in gently to figure it out. I then screwed in as many riser pins as I could. You want your motherboard to be very secure and well supported when you start pushing in components.
o I laid the motherboard down on the riser pins and attached it with the screws.
3. Install the processor, heat sink and RAM
o Most people are surprised at the small size of a computer's CPU. It's also very delicate, so use an anti-static wrist guard when handling the processor.
o I read the instructions, paying careful attention to how to correctly position the processor and insert it so I could get it right first time. Many sources suggest you install the processor and heat sink before installing the motherboard. This is probably to prevent damage to the motherboard if you press too hard. So be careful however you do it.
o Next came the heat sink. This is huge in comparison to the processor. It has a large fan on the back. To install it, I positioned it over four plastic clips and pressed down firmly to snap all four clips over the heat sink's base.
o I secured the heat sink by tightening the black locking screws that came with it.
o The heat sink's fan of course needs power. Referring to the schematic, I connected the fan's three-pin power connector to a header on the motherboard.
o I had two 512MB modules to install for a total of 1GB of memory. My board had four memory slots. The motherboard's directions used color to indicate which slots get filled first.
4. Connecting the ports, drive and cards
o I installed the front panel USB/FireWire ports that came with the motherboard. I had a choice of a black or white cover to match my computer. (I went with black, of course.) Then I followed the diagram to correctly connect the ports to the motherboard.
o While I was there, I followed the instructions for connecting the front panel lights and power button to the motherboard.
o I installed the floppy drive/card reader. The built-in reader is a smart idea that gives floppy drives a new role.
o To install the DVD/CD-RW drive, I opened the other side of the case. It was the only way I could secure the drive properly.
o Then I attached the two serial ATA hard drives in neighboring bays.
o I connected power feeds from the power supply to each of the drives.
o I connected all the drives to the motherboard, following the schematics. The serial ATA drives use a small cable to connect to each other and the motherboard. There are no jumpers to worry about. Each drive connects with its own serial ATA connector.
o Then I installed the graphics card. It was a PCI Express* card that had to be connected to the PCI Express bus.
5. Installing the lights
o Now for the fun part. The lights plug into the extra power connectors from the power supply. You can daisy-chain the lights, but don't put more than two lights per outlet as they will only shine dimly. That's why a big power supply is handy: more power equals more lights.
o I bought cable sleeves and ties to make everything neat and tidy. I closed the case, plugged in the computer and connected the keyboard, mouse and speakers. It was time to flip the switch.
o This was the moment of truth—and everything worked!
6. Installing the operating system and setting up RAID
o Unlike a PC you buy from your computer store, a homemade one means installing the operating system yourself. I inserted my Microsoft Windows* XP Professional CD into the DVD/CD drive. It didn't boot. No mystery there. The BIOS was set to boot on the floppy drive. I went into the BIOS and set the primary boot drive to the DVD/CD drive.
o I rebooted and the computer began to load Windows XP Pro. I mentioned before that I bought two serial ATA hard drives. The reason for doing this was so I could set them in a RAID configuration. (RAID, by the way, stands for Redundant Arrays of Independent Disks.) During the setup, Windows asks you if you have RAID drivers to install. I clicked "F6" for yes and followed the instructions.
o I decided to go with RAID 0. This allows my computer to read and write data in parallel from both drives. With two drives recording or throwing out data at the same time, RAID 0 delivers better storage performance and faster data transfers than a single drive. A RAID 1 setting, on the other hand, protects against drive failures by mirroring all the data between the two drives. This is a good feature as well, especially if you're storing family photos or other irreplaceable data on your computer.
No need to go into more detail about setting up Windows. Lots of sites provide great information on that. Microsoft has made it pretty automatic. It took about an hour, but went very smoothly.
I like gaming, so I was looking forward to showing off my new machine. Modding can turn your computer from a passive, humming box into something dynamic and expressive. Now, when I play a game or work on the computer, all kinds of lights go off as elements of the hard drive are activated.
As always, your experiences may differ depending on what you buy. Also the options are extensive, giving you endless opportunities to get creative and get building.

How to digitize old videotapes?

Digitizing old videotapes means you can protect aging footage by capturing it as digital files on your PC and burning it onto DVDs.
I wanted to transfer my favorite old films and home movies from their old videotape format to a DVD, so I could enjoy them on any PC with a built-in DVD player or on a standalone DVD player. The digitization process also lets you edit old video footage more easily and share it over a network or by email.
I also discovered that the image quality of old videotapes degrades over time and with repeated play, so I wanted to transfer my favorite old films and home movies to DVD as soon as possible.
Here's what I did:
Step by step
1. First I had to find out whether my PC had the right equipment, cables and software to link to my video recorder as well as recognize the video recorder's analog signal and convert it to a digital format.
There are a number of PCs sold as "media centers" because they have all the components and software you need to manage analog and digital data.
PCs with Intel® Viiv™ technology built in are a good example because of the advances this technology brings to integrated digital home entertainment. Also, some digital camcorders have "Analog-to-Digital Conversion with Pass-Through" technology that can convert analog signals into digital files on your PC.
My PC is not a media center PC, thus it doesn't have the components or software needed to digitize my old videotape footage. Also, my camcorder isn't equipped with "Analog-to-Digital Conversion with Pass-Through" technology.
So I bought a video capture PCI card (like the Hauppauge WinTV* card) and installed it on my PC, making sure to follow the instructions carefully. The WinTV card enables the PC to receive an analog signal from the video recorder and convert it to digital data.
2. Next I made sure I had the right software to capture my old video footage on my PC. Some PCI cards are sold with the video capture software included...and luckily mine did too. I opened the software and selected the "Create New Project" option and saved the video footage to my hard drive.
3. After creating my new project and giving it a name, I saved it as an MPEG (movie) file using the "Save As" option.
4. I then inserted an old tape into the video recorder and pressed "Play." The software recognized the video recorder and started to play the video footage on my monitor. I pressed the "Capture" button that appeared in the software's menu. I wanted to digitize all the footage on this video, so I let it play to the end—but it's possible to stop the video at any point and the software will stop capturing.
5. After capturing the footage, I knew the video was digitized and saved to my hard drive as an MPEG file. Now I could edit the footage using video editing software and burn the final MPEG file onto a DVD.

LUX Style Awards announces Entertainment Category Nominations
KARACHI: The much awaited LUX Style Awards Entertainment Category Nominations were announced in Karachi on Monday. After the five member jury deliberated over the TV and Music Nominations they selected the Top 5 in each category. A tie for the fifth place meant that the Best Music Album and the Best Satellite TV Actor Categories had six Nominations each.

The long awaited movie Khuda Ke Liye - In the Name of God a movie by Shoaib Mansoor is finally heading towards release.
The movie revolves around a Pakistani young man (Shaan) who goes to the United States of America for higher education. During his study years, the tragic event of 9/11 takes place where the World Trade Center is turned into dust. In a long array of investigations and arrests, the young man gets arrested by the American authorities; and his younger brother is being motivated by his old friend Shershah Hameed Sheikh on the path of God and to quit all musical activities in favor of the “straight” path. Meanwhile, his uncle (Humayun Kazmi) arrives from UK with his only cousin Mary (Iman Ali) who wanted to marry her non-Muslim boyfriend back in the UK against her family’s wishes. He brings her to Pakistan where Shershah tucks them to their village in a tribal area near Afghanistan. There tries to escape but Shershah follows her and brings her back to the village.
The experiences of the young man are shown in this movie. There are plenty of other issues that are highlighted in this film. Iman Ali makes her cinema debut with this film, and enacts the character of a Pakistani-Briton. Austin Sayre also makes her film debut and plays Shaan’s wife. The young music prodigy Ahmed Jahanzeb produced the soundtrack for the film.
“Shoaib Mansoor’s mission is to show the world that all people are not as extreme as they are perceived to be,” said line producer Leigh Jones.
“He wants Americans to see that all Muslims are not extreme terrorists, and he wants Pakistanis to see that most Americans are not these petulant children.”

ISLAMABAD, June 29: President Gen Pervez Musharraf said on Friday that an operation could be launched against the Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa brigade, but a raid would lead to heavy casualties on both sides because a large number of suicide bombers were inside the mosque and seminaries.

Responding to reporters’ questions at the concluding ceremony of the National Media Workshop at the National Defence University, President Musharraf said: “Can you guarantee that blood of any dead or injured will not be screened on television channels during the operation?”

He said that militants having links with Jaish-i-Muhammad and Al Qaeda were hiding in the mosque and seminaries and they had explosives. They might cause havoc in case of an armed operation, he said, adding: “Let it be clear that the action against the Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa brigade was not withheld because of government’s weakness or cowardice in the face of enemy.”

He warned that some foreign elements were busy in the tribal areas planning terrorist activities against some western countries which, if materialised, could entail “extremely dangerous consequences”.

“Critics should understand that the madressah houses 2,500 women students with minor boys and suicide bombers inside are equipped with sophisticated arms. While police are not capable of launching such a complex operation, the army cannot be involved for it can give a wrong message to the world,” the president said.

“We have involved senior clerics of the country, the Council of Islamic Ideology and the Imam-i-Kaaba to end the standoff. Shall we now call Allah to help these elements shun their wrongdoings?”

The president announced that he would address the nation next week and inform the people about some important national issues and the steps his government was planning to take to halt the spread of extremist tendencies in the NWFP. He said he would appear on the national television every fortnight to explain his viewpoint subject by subject.

He rejected opposition’ claim that fair and free elections were not possible under him and said: “It is not going to deter me from holding elections even if this element was not ready to contest the polls under my dispensation.”

About the army chief’s uniform, he said: “This issue certainly needs to be addressed but leave this decision to me.”

Asked if he wanted to remain in power on a permanent basis, he said: “No one is permanent nor will remain forever, but as long as I am at the helm I will continue to express whatever I see is good for the nation.”

In response to a question, he admitted that there had been a gap between the government and the media and said the media should promote national interests while reporting events.

He said nuclear and strategic interests, war on terror, extremism, militancy and Talibanisation, operations in the tribal areas and Balochistan and issues relating to inter-provincial harmony were the areas where the media should exercise restraint.

The president admitted that a large number of ministers lacked enthusiasm on a number of issues.

He was critical of the way media hype had been created after the March 9 decision of sending presidential reference against Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

“I was pushed to make amendments to the Pemra ordinance as a result of this imbalance in coverage, but I did not mean to impose curbs on the independence of media. It has been left to the media to set limits under a code of conduct.”

Reiterating his government’s resolve to accept the Supreme Court’s verdict, the president said an action would be decided against elements which had decided not to accept a judgment if was against the reinstatement of the chief justice.

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE, June 2: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement concerning Friday’s meeting in which corps commanders endorsed dual offices for President Gen Musharraf has been condemned by various political parties.

At a Saturday press conference in Islamabad, acting parliamentary leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan accused General Musharraf of presenting the army as a political party and warned that this could lead to a civil war.

Rejecting the ISPR statement, he demanded that the full proceedings of the corps commanders’ meeting be made public.

Meanwhile, at a joint press conference in Lahore, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) president Qazi Hussain Ahmed, secretary general Maulana Fazlur Rahman and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan termed the ISPR statement “unconstitutional and unethical.” They said that the corps commanders’ meeting constituted an effort to involve the army leadership in the political survival of a ruler who has lost all legitimacy.

At the Islamabad conference, also attended by PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal, Mr Nisar accused the president of using the army to threaten the media and legal community and said the nation wanted to know the names of those who endorsed General Musharraf’s dual positions.

He declared that General Musharraf had used his last trump card in convening the corps commanders’ meeting, given that his plan to use the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had failed.

“The message given to the nation through the ISPR press release is detrimental to national integrity and in violation of rules,” said Mr Nisar. “We condemn it in the strongest possible terms.” He said that everyone struggling for the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary is a patriotic Pakistani. Without naming a party, he said that “anti-state elements are those who have become opening batsmen for Gen Musharraf.” The MMA and PTI statement accused Gen Musharraf of using the armed forces for his own survival and asserted that the public does not know exactly what transpired in Friday’s meeting. If ISPR press release was an accurate report, said the statement, it points to a fundamental departure from the role of the armed forces as laid down in the Consti tution and the Army Act.

Article 243 of the Constitution states that the federal government shall control the armed forces, while Article 244 makes it obligatory for every member of the armed forces to take an oath providing that “I will not engage myself with political activity whatsoever and I will honestly and faithfully serve Pakistan in the Pakistan Army (Navy and Air Force) as required by and under the law.” The statement said that Pakistan expects its army to remains aloof from politics. It said that by dragging the army into politics, the current government had harmed the relationship between the armed forces and the citizens.

The MMA and Tehrik-i-Insaaf leadership demanded the immediate resignation of General Musharraf from the posts of president and army chief, and said that leaders in exile should return to participate in the election process. They called for the formation of a neutral interim national government to immediately conduct free and fair elections, and that the election commission should be reconstituted in consultation with major parliamentary parties. They also demanded the complete independence of the judiciary.

بس بات اتنی سی ہے۔
اب سے چند سال پہلے جب یہ سب ٹی وی چینلز شروع ہوئے تھے تو شائد کسی کو بھی اندازہ نہیں تھا کہ بات یہاں آ کر ٹہرے گی۔
ایک ایسی قوم کے لئے جو کرکٹ میچ یا پھر صرف جلد بازی میں تیار کئے گئے ڈرامے ٹی وی پر دیکھنے کی عادی ہو، اچانک سے پی ٹی وی کے خبرنامے کے علاوہ کوئی اور خبریں اپنی سکرین پر دیکھنا ایک دلچسپ تجربہ تھا۔ نتیجہ یہ نکلا کہ جلد ہی پاکستان ان بہت کم ملکوں میں شمار ہونے لگا جہاں سوپ ڈراموں کے بعد دوسرے نمبر پر ٹی وی پر سب سے زیادہ مقبول چیز خبریں اور خبروں سے متعلق مباحثے کے پروگرام بن گئے۔
یہاں تک سب کچھ ٹھیک ہی چل رہا تھا۔
لیکن پھر ایک بہت بڑی قدرتی آفت نے ملک کی حکومت اور میڈیا دونوں کو امتحان میں ڈال دیا۔ اکتوبر دو ہزار پانچ کے زلزلے سے ظاہر ہے حکومت نے تو کیا ہی کچھ سیکھنا تھا، میڈیا کے کچھ حلقوں کو یہ ضرور سمجھ آگیا کہ معلومات کے ساتھ ساتھ تصویر کی طاقت کیا ہوتی ہے۔

تصویر کی طاقت کیا ہوتی ہے اور یہ کیا کیا کر سکتی ہے؟ اس وقت پاکستان میں سبھی سیاسی حلقے ، حکومتی یا اپوزیشن، ملک میں موجود اس نئی حقیقت سے ڈیل کرنے کی کوشش کررہے ہیں۔

بس کیا تھا۔ چیف جسٹس کے بحران میں پاکستانی میڈیا نے نہ صرف اس سیکھے ہوئے سبق کا بھر پور استعمال کیا بلکہ اس بحران کے شروع میں ہی بہت جلد بہت کچھ اور بھی سیکھ لیا۔
اس بحران میں پہلی مرتبہ پاکستان میں ڈی ایس این جی یا وہ آلات جس کی مدد سے لائیو کوریج کی جاسکتی ہے، کا بہت اچھا استعمال کیا گیا۔ اس سلسلے میں سب سے پہلے آج ٹی وی اور پھر آے آر وائی سامنے رہے جس کے بعد جیو ٹی وی نے بھی ایسا کیا۔
بارہ مئی کو جو کچھ کراچی میں ہوا ، وہ اس شہر میں پہلے بھی کئی مرتبہ ہو چکاہے فرق صرف یہ ہے کہ پہلے لائیو کیمرے نوجوان لڑکوں کو طرح طرح کی گنیں لوڈ کرتے ہوئے نہیں دکھاتے تھے جبکہ اب ٹی وی کا ہر ناظر شام کو دوستوں کے ساتھ بحث میں یہ کہہ سکتا ہے کہ ’میں نے خود دیکھا۔۔۔۔۔’شائد یہ بھی تصویر کی طاقت کی تشریح کرنے کا ایک طریقہ ہے۔ آپ ایک مرتبہ ایک تصویر سے جو کچھ حاصل کرتے ہیں وہ پھر آپ سے کوئی چھین نہیں سکتا۔

تصویر کی طاقت کیا ہوتی ہے اور یہ کیا کیا کر سکتی ہے؟ اس وقت پاکستان میں سبھی سیاسی حلقے ، حکومتی یا اپوزیشن، ملک میں موجود اس نئی حقیقت سے ڈیل کرنے کی کوشش کررہے ہیں۔ لیکن افسوس صد افسوس کہ بظاہر پاکستانی ریاست تاریخ کے ایک بنیادی سبق سے مکمل طور پر نظریں چراتی دکھائی دیتی ہے اور وہ یہ کہ : ان تصویروں کو آزاد نہ کیا تو یہ تصویریں ان سب کا پیچھا کریں گی۔

ISLAMABAD, May 31: The government on Thursday decided to invoke some existing laws to curb unhindered media coverage, particularly electronic media’s live coverage of outdoor events while, Information Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani warned newspapers and private television channels against crossing what he termed ‘legal limits’.
Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, Mr Durrani made it clear that the government was annoyed over the live coverage of a recent seminar at the Supreme Court in which several fiery speeches were made, punctuated with anti-government slogans.
“An element clearly violated the limits that the Constitution and the law of the land put on every citizen about protecting the honour and respect of the judiciary and the armed forces,” he said, indicating that such moves warranted action.
The minister did not specify the possible actions which the government intended to initiate but warned that Pemra laws, especially the ones about controlling the live coverage of events, would be applied.
Information ministry officials said the government, while using some Pemra laws, was planning to make it mandatory for televisions channels to seek prior permission for live coverage of outdoor events. If applied strictly, the government may restrict all live coverage, particularly of events like opposition rallies or events relating to the judicial crisis.
A government petition, pending in the Supreme Court, criticises the slogans raised at the seminar by lawyers.
“The events of the past two months have brought into sharp focus the issue of freedom with responsibility and a matter of concern for everyone within the government or outside it,” the information minister said.
He said that the judicial issue, which required a judicial verdict, had been politicised to the extent that the Supreme Court’s own directives were also not adhered to.
At one stage Mr Durrani got emotional and said: “The armed forces of Pakistan have … embraced martyrdom whenever the country faced any threat. Be it an ordinary soldier or a general, the commitment to the defence of Pakistan is immeasurable.
“We cannot, therefore, let the defenders of our frontiers be maligned and defamed,” the minister said.

ISLAMABAD, May 27: The embassy of Pakistan in Greece has warned of a diplomatic disaster in the making as an estimated 10,000 illegal immigrants taken to Turkey by a gang of Pakistani human smugglers are likely to be pushed into Greece and Italy, possibly between now and September.
Since the alarm raised by the Pakistani mission in Athens, security agencies and relevant ministries have been treating it as a crisis situation, but so far no strategy has been worked out to counter the smugglers’ moves.
This is by far the biggest challenge related to human smuggling that the Pakistani security agencies are facing outside the country, as never before such a large number of people were illegally taken to a country with the aim of pushing them into Europe.
The crisis has been compounded with the revelation -- based on documents available with Dawn -- that the gang involved in such a major criminal act included not only a few influential people in Pakistan, but it is part of a network linked to powerful gangs behind hum smuggling in Iran, Turkey and Greece. It is learnt that the Pakistani mission in Athens has told the authorities in Islamabad that, based on information provided by some illegal immigrants, it had reasons to believe that a few police officials in Greece were also part of the network. These officials allegedly helped in providing safe passage, including the safety of armoured vehicles, to illegal immigrants.
The alarm about the new in flux of illegal immigrants was raised following a recent relaxation in Greek immigration rules, which the smugglers considered to be a golden opportunity to push more people through the Turkish border into Europe.
It is also learnt that among measures recently announced by the Greek government, illegal immigrants whose applications had earlier been rejected by local authorities for want of sufficient proof of their arrival in Greece before Dec 31, 2004, were now eligible to apply afresh.
Secondly, illegal immigrants married to a Greek national or an alien residing legally in Greece before the date are also eligible to apply again. Similarly, parents of children enrolled in government schools in Greece before this date are also permitted to apply. The new rules also apply to parents of children born in Greece before Dec 31, 2004.
It is not clear how many of these illegal immigrants have attempted to cross the border since the Pakistani mission started communicating with Islamabad and if any of them has been apprehended.
However, the Pakistani mission in Athens has pointed out that even if these illegal immigrants manage to slip into Greece, they will not be able to benefit from the new rules, which are meant for people already living there for several years. The embassy’s real worry is that these people are likely to create major problems for the Pakistani mission and the country by their illegal and unauthorised presence in Greece.
Information about the network, with particular reference to the present crisis, makes a disturbing reading about the extent of the gang’s influence, and how it has so far managed to manipulate systems right from Pakistan to Turkey, and even in Greece to continue to send illegal immigrants.
Upon entering in Greece, illegal immigrants are transported to Athens in vehicles resembling Greek army vehicles. Another illegal immigrant said that the vehicle in which he and other members of his group were travelling to Turkish/Greek border stopped at a certain place and a man wearing Turkish army uniform boarded the bus and helped them in leaving Turkey.
Investigation of cases of illegal immigration and human trafficking has revealed that smugglers use various methods to send people to and from Pakistan.
Islamabad was informed that the human smuggling mafia had been exploiting the weaknesses of the law-enforcement system in the four countries.
It was also informed that there had been a decrease in human smuggling after the arrest of Javed Aslam Arain in October 2006 through Interpol. After his arrest, his operation stopped and he plunged into a financial crisis.
However, he resumed his activities and a request for his extradition was turned down by a court of appeals in Athens.
This time a considerable surge in human smuggling from Pakistan to Turkey was witnessed and the operation appeared to be well-funded.
The Pakistani ambassador in Athens suggested that apart from taking other measures, the FIA should appoint a liaison officer there to curb human smuggling in a professional manner. The embassy also said that the FIA presence in Greece had now become more important after the posting of a police liaison officer at the Greek Embassy in Islamabad.

Tehsil Nazim Phalia occupies bureaucrat’s land

A Tehsil Nazim has ‘illegally’ occupied valuable land belonging to a bureaucrat, in defiance of court order. Shakil Gulzar, Tehsil Nazim of Phalia (Mandi Bahauddin), occupied the land on Tuesday, exactly a week after the court had issued a stay and restrain order to him and his other family members. Phalia police station that also received the court order to ensure its implementation in letter and spirit, virtually stood as a silent spectator and put up different excuses instead of registering a complaint lodged against the nazim. Arshad Farooq, deputy secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, said that the Tehsil Nazim had occupied the land notwithstanding a court order. The court order says: “Till further order, the defendants (Tehsil Nazim and his brothers) are hereby restrained from interferences into the possession of plaintiff illegally and forcibly”. However, this order shall not have effect upon any legal or judicial proceedings of any competent authority, it further says. Civil judge, Phalia, Rana Muhammad Ashfaq, had issued this order on May 22. Tehsil Nazim and his brothers have been directed through this order, to appear before the court on June 6 and submit their reply. The Nazim, while confirming that he had occupied the land, denied having any knowledge of the stay and restrain order issued by the court.

Whether it was the bloody crusades, continual suicide bombings aimed at obliterating enemies of God’s last religion or the war-bent aftermath of 9/11, nothing has made the ongoing clash of civilizations more apparent than a puny little cartoon, one that has brought to light the ugly face of western contempt. The debacle of a barbaric portrait of a man Muslims hold dearer than any ideal fathomable has proved to be nothing but a resounding slap on the face after all our years of ass kissing and nauseating yelps of enthusiasm when asked to ‘sit’, ‘stand’, ‘roll over’ and ‘play dead’.
Depicting Hazrat Mohommad (PBUH) as a terrorist encapsulating a bomb for a turban seems to be the tip of an iceberg that has its vice-like grips of intolerance deeply rooted within a hotbed of social deconstruction. The west manages to give away time and again just how trigger-happy it can be when it comes to provoking the sentiments of the third world. Falling back on the crappiest excuse in the book, one that entails ‘freedom of the press’, they have demonstrated a culture of contradictions all of their very own. Is it not these very same Europeans who banned the head-scarf in France, who frisk search every man with a beard and suspicious name (read Muhammad) at almost every airport in the world and seek to root out all immigrants on the basis of their ties with suspected militants who have no more affiliation with them than Osama has with Heidi Klum? Freedom of art, craft and movement, my foot.The stance of the Danish government is to vindicate the cartoons’ right to be published under the banner of unrestraint but, instead, they should really ask themselves one question: does freedom of speech really have to come at the cost of having to tolerate speech one finds abhorrent? Ever find yourself asking just when and where the ‘liberalist’ west will draw the last straw? I know I do.
We Muslims may be called fanatics (and I do not, for a single second, doubt that we’d be much better off without a few radical elements), anarchists against the idea of pacifism and a far cry from tolerant in pursuits such as gender equality and the like, but one thing we are not and never have been are defilers of the prophets of any God sent creed, be it Jesus, Moses or any other messiah in a list that runs into the thousands.
It’s not our problem that fractions in the west have made Jesus Christ ‘superstar’ the butt of many perverse jokes, that they make dashboard tributes of him winking and flashing the thumbs up sign while personifying his new-found and revamped image of being an all round ‘nice guy’ and making movies such as The Last Temptation Of Christ in which he is shown giving in to the allure of a life less extraordinary. It’s not our problem that throughout the ages, Christians the world over are beginning to lose their faith for a new world order, one in which ‘sensibilities’ may be aversely affected if prayers are offered in schools, the word ‘God’ is not to be mentioned in front of impressionable young kids and the advent of a Muslim uprising is seen as a threat to life as they know it. It’s not our problem when radical Christian elements blow up abortion clinics to protect their Catholic faith and it sure as hell isn’t our problem when priests and other clerics of the holy order fondle young alter and choir boys due to their pent-up homosexual tendencies. But it is our problem if they jump onto the bandwagon of religious regurgitation by repulsively illustrating the entire enormity of our 1500 year-old faith within a few strokes of the hand that holds the pen of blasphemy in a comic strip of degradation.
What the west wanted, the west got: a backlash of violence and hatred that has the unguided potential to spew forth a tsunami of vengeance and brute force which is exactly the kind of reaction we have going against us. It’s pretty obvious that this is going to be played down as an ‘extreme’ answer by ‘barbaric’ religious fundamentalists, exactly the kind of image we’re trying to throw out the blood splattered window. Whether sufi, progressive or extremist, we all feel pretty passionate about the Prophet’s depiction and aren’t afraid to show it.
However, this is where our own common sense should come into play. Do we really want to give those Danish and European flag bearers of emancipation the response they’re crossing fingers for by picking up our guns, torching the councils of their representation and chanting hate slogans or do we opt for the more cool and calculated approach by waging a quieter, smarter war on liberal ignorance. The boycott of Danish goods is cute, but it can get a whole lot cuter with a 1.3 billion Muslim strong campaign against the documentations of degradation through a thought process that does not entail violence. Whatever the answer is, it does not lie in mayhem and disorder.
This fiasco is not about Christians vs. Muslims or the West vs. Islam, it is about the incapacity of a nation of focused fools to understand that they cannot, under any circumstances, play around with the divine sentiments of those who in many a case put their faith before their lives. That’s playing with fire territory so don’t go crying to mommy when your pants get burnt.
This was solely a premeditated act of disconcertation and malicious provocation, one that requires an immediate apology and rebuking of any further efforts to reprint this joke of expressional freedom.

خطرے کی گھنٹی بج چکی ہے۔ اگر کسی کو گھنٹی کی آواز سنائی نہیں دیتی تو بلوچستان اسمبلی کی قرارداد کو دیکھ لے۔ بلوچستان میں مسلم لیگ (ق) اور متحدہ مجلس عمل کی مشترکہ حکومت ہے لیکن ہفتہ کو مسلم لیگ (ق) نے بلوچستان اسمبلی میں متحدہ قومی موومنٹ کے خلاف قرارداد کی منظوری کو روکنے کی کوئی کوشش نہیں کی بلکہ صوبائی اسمبلی میں مسلم لیگ (ق) کے بعض ارکان نے اس قرارداد کی حمایت کی۔ ایم کیو ایم کے خلاف قرارداد کی حمایت میں مسلم لیگ (ق) کی صوبائی وزیر نسرین کھیتران نے ووٹ دیا۔ صوبائی وزیر قانون عبدالرحمان جمالی نے اس قرارداد کی مخالفت نہیں کی بلکہ اپنی تقریر میں کہا کہ ریلیاں نکالنے سے قوم کو کوئی فائدہ نہیں ہوا۔ بلوچستان اسمبلی میں مسلم لیگ (ق) کے ارکان کے رویے کو سامنے رکھا جائے تو یہ سمجھنا مشکل نہیں کہ قومی اسمبلی اور سینیٹ کے اجلاس ملتوی کیوں کئے گئے ؟ کتنی بدقسمتی ہے کہ پوری قوم 12 مئی کو کراچی میں ہونے والی خونریزی پر بدستور غمزدہ ہے اور اس خونریزی کے ذمہ داروں کے خلاف کارروائی چاہتی ہے لیکن پارلیمنٹ کے دونوں ایوانوں میں اس اہم مسئلے پر آدھے گھنٹہ بھی بات نہ ہوئی۔ اپوزیشن نے دونوں ایوانوں میں نعرے بازی اور ہنگامہ آرائی کے ذریعہ حکومت کو اجلاس ملتوی کرنے کا جواز فراہم کر دیا۔ اگر قومی اسمبلی کا اجلاس ملتوی نہ ہوتا تو کراچی کے واقعات پر اپوزیشن کے علاوہ حکومتی ارکان کی طرف سے بھی اہم سوالات اٹھائے جانے تھے۔ سب سے اہم سوال یہ تھا کہ 12 مئی کو ایم کیو ایم کو کراچی میں ریلی نکالنے کا حکم کس نے دیا تھا ؟ اپوزیشن جماعتوں نے 12 مئی کی خونریزی کی ذمہ داری ایم کیو ایم پر ڈالی ہے اور ایم کیو ایم نے جواب میں یہ ذمہ داری اپوزیشن پر ڈال دی ہے۔ جنرل پرویز مشرف کے سوا مسلم لیگ (ق) کے کسی اہم رہنما نے کھل کر ایم کیو ایم کا دفاع نہیں کیا۔ شائد اس کی وجہ یہ ہے 12 مئی کو کراچی میں جو کچھ ہوا اس کے بعد ایم کیو ایم کی پیپلز پارٹی اور اے این پی کے ساتھ کشیدگی میں اضافہ ہوا ہے۔ اس کشیدگی کے باعث پیپلز پارٹی، اے این پی اور ایم کیو ایم کو متحد کرکے جنرل پرویز مشرف کی پشت پر کھڑا کرنے کی خواہش دم توڑتی نظر آ رہی ہے۔ اس خواہش نے کچھ عرصہ قبل واشنگٹن میں جنم لیا تھا۔ خواہش کا اظہار کرنے والوں کا منصوبہ یہ تھا کہ 2008ء میں جنرل پرویز مشرف وردی اتار دیں گے لیکن ان کی پشت پر ایک مضبوط سیاسی حکومت موجود ہوگی جس میں مسلم لیگ (ق)، پیپلز پارٹی، ایم کیو ایم اور اے این پی بھی شامل ہو گی۔ اسی منصوبے کے تحت صوبہ سرحد کو بھی مسلم لیگ (ق)، پیپلز پارٹی اور اے این پی کی مخلوط حکومت کے حوالے کیا جانا تھا، سندھ میں پیپلز پارٹی، مسلم لیگ (ق) اور ایم کیو ایم کا اتحاد بننا تھا، بلوچستان میں مسلم لیگ (ق) اور کچھ قوم پرستوں کو ملانے کی آرزو تھی اور پنجاب کو صرف مسلم لیگ (ق) کے حوالے کیا جانا تھا۔ واشنگٹن والوں کی خواہش پر ایم کیو ایم کو اعتماد میں لیکر بے نظیر بھٹو سے بات شروع کی گئی، اے این پی بھی رابطے میں تھی لیکن 9 مارچ کو چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری کے خلاف کارروائی نے ان رابطوں میں دراڑیں ڈال دیں۔ 12 مئی کو کراچی میں خونریزی کے باعث پیدا ہونے والی غلط فہمیوں نے 2008ء میں جنرل پرویز مشرف کے ان متوقع اتحادیوں کو آپس میں لڑا دیا ہے۔ مسلم لیگ (ق) کے اکثر رہنما اس صورتحال سے خوش ہیں کیونکہ وہ اندر سے نہ تو ایم کیو ایم سے راضی تھے اور نہ ہی پیپلز پارٹی کے ساتھ اقتدار میں حصہ داری چاہتے تھے۔ 14 مئی کو قومی اسمبلی کا اجلاس شروع ہوا تو پیپلز پارٹی، مسلم لیگ (ن) اور ایم ایم اے نے فوری طور پر ایم کیو ایم کے خلاف نعرے بازی شروع کر دی۔ ایم کیو ایم کیلئے تن تنہا اس نعرے بازی کا جواب دینا ممکن نہ تھا لیکن مسلم لیگ (ق) کے ارکان کی ایک بڑی اکثریت نے خاموشی اختیار کئے رکھی۔ یہ بھی واضح تھا کہ مسلم لیگ (ق) کے بعض ارکان قومی اسمبلی بھی ایم کیو ایم پر تنقید کریں گے لہذا مناسب یہی سمجھا گیا کہ قومی اسمبلی کا اجلاس ملتوی کر دیا جائے۔ سینیٹ کا اجلاس بھی اسی وجہ سے موخر کیا گیا۔ متحدہ قومی موومنٹ کی رابطہ کمیٹی کی طرف سے 17 مئی کو جاری کئے جانے والے بیان میں کہا گیا ہے کہ اگر ہم حکومت میں ہوتے ہوئے بھی عوام اور کارکنان کو تحفظ فراہم نہیں کر سکتے تو پھر ایم کیو ایم کو جھنڈے والی گاڑیوں میں پھرنے کا کوئی شوق نہیں۔ رابطہ کمیٹی نے وکلاء کو یقین دلایا کہ ایم کیو ایم ان کی آئینی اور قانونی جدوجہد کے خلاف نہیں ہے۔ اس بیان کے بعد سندھ کے گورنر عشرت العباد کو لندن بلا لیا گیا ۔ اب جبکہ کراچی کی ایک عدالت نے وکلاء پر حملے کے الزام میں سندھ حکومت کے خلاف مقدمہ درج کرنے کا حکم دیدیا ہے تو الطاف حسین کیلئے اپنا دفاع مزید مشکل ہو گیا ہے۔ ان کے بعض ساتھیوں کا خیال ہے کہ ایم کیو ایم کے خلاف غم و غصے کو ٹھنڈا کرنے کا سب سے موزوں راستہ یہ ہے کہ 12 مئی کے واقعات پر چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری سے معذرت کی جائے، سندھ ہائی کورٹ بار ایسوسی ایشن کے مشورے سے چیف جسٹس کو دوبارہ کراچی آنے کی دعوت دی جائے اور ایم کیو ایم کے وزراء خود کراچی ائر پورٹ پر چیف جسٹس کا استقبال کریں۔ الطاف حسین کے ساتھیوں کا کہنا ہے کہ آئندہ چیف جسٹس جب بھی کراچی آئیں ایم کیو ایم اس دن شہر میں کوئی ریلی نہیں نکالے گی اور اگر اسلام آباد سے اسی دن ایم کیو ایم کو کراچی میں ریلی نکالنے کی ہدایت دی جائے تو اسے تسلیم نہ کیا جائے خواہ اس انکار کے عوض حکومت ہی کیوں نہ چھوڑنی پڑے۔ ایک رائے یہ بھی ہے کہ اگر ایم کیو ایم فوری طور پر مرکزی حکومت اور سندھ حکومت کو چھوڑ دیتی ہے تو سیاسی لحاظ سے اس کی پوزیشن متحدہ مجلس عمل سے بہتر ہو سکتی ہے جو مرکز میں مسلم لیگ (ق) کی مخالف اور بلوچستان میں مسلم لیگ (ق) کی اتحادی ہے۔ بہرحال یہ طے ہے کہ ایم کیو ایم ایک مشکل میں پھنس چکی ہے اور اس مشکل سے نکلنے کیلئے کوئی مشکل فیصلہ کرنا پڑے گا۔ 2007ء سب کیلئے مشکل فیصلوں کا سال ہے۔ جنرل پرویز مشرف نومبر 2007ء کے بعد وردی سمیت صدر نہیں رہ سکتے۔ انہیں وردی اتارنی ہے۔ نواز شریف جانتے ہیں کہ اگر وہ پاکستان واپس آئیں گے تو انہیں لاہور ائر پورٹ پر ایک ہوائی جہاز سے نکال کر سعودی عرب جانے والے دوسرے جہاز پر بٹھا دیا جائے گا لیکن وہ لاہور والوں کا امتحان لینا چاہتے ہیں اور اگلے چند مہینوں میں نہیں بلکہ ہفتوں اور دنوں میں واپسی چاہتے ہیں۔ نواز شریف کی طرف سے واپسی کا اعلان صرف لاہور والوں کو نہیں بلکہ پورے پنجاب کو مشکل میں ڈال دے گا۔ حکومت اور اپوزیشن دونوں مشکل میں ہیں۔ اس صورتحال میں دونوں اطراف کو ایک دوسرے کا مقابلہ صرف سیاسی اور قانونی طریقے سے کرنا چاہئے۔ ذاتی انتقام اور ایک دوسرے کی کردار کشی پر نہیں اترنا چاہئے۔ چیف جسٹس کے ایک وکیل منیر اے ملک کے گھر پر فائرنگ ہو چکی ہے، اب چوہدری اعتزاز احسن کو پراسرار فون کالیں کی جا رہی ہیں اور ان کے خلاف اسکینڈل تراشنے کی تیاریاں کی جا رہی ہیں۔ پیپلز پارٹی کے رہنما مخدوم سید یوسف رضا گیلانی اور شیری رحمان پر جس قسم کے الزامات لگانے کی تیاریاں ہیں اس کے ردعمل میں حکومت کی بعض شخصیات پر بھی ویسے ہی الزامات سامنے آ سکتے ہیں۔ پاکستان کی سیاسی قوتوں کو ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ سیاسی طریقے سے اختلاف کرنا چاہئے، غیر سیاسی قوتوں کے مشورے پر غیر سیاسی اور غیر اخلاقی ہتھکنڈے اختیار کئے گئے تو دونوں اطراف کی ساکھ مجروح ہوگی۔ سیاستدانوں کے غیر سیاسی اتحادی کبھی مسعود محمود بن کر ذوالفقار علی بھٹو کو پھانسی لگواتے ہیں اور کبھی لیفٹننٹ جنرل ضیاء الدین بٹ کی طرح نواز شریف کو حکومت سے نکلواتے ہیں۔ سیاستدانوں کو غیر سیاسی اتحادیوں پر انحصار نہیں کرنا چاہئے۔ بالکل قائداعظم کی طرح !

Today a bomb blasted in City of Peshawar in Marhaba Hotel near Mahabit Mosque and casualties total is about 25 and injured are about 30 persons.

Google earns most of its money by serving up relevant ads. So if you really like the service, maybe you should be willing to sift through a couple of advertisements to get your search results. But if you really want to snub your nose at the whole consumer culture thing, it looks like Google's provided a way to use the search engine without seeing a single ad.You could also use browser plugins to achieve a similar effect, but this trick feels like it's officially sanctioned by Google, since, you know, it is. I am not entirely sure why Google would have created an ads-free search page, but it's nice to know it's there if you need it.
