105 dead in Parachinar

The army has moved into Parachinar to stop ongoing clashes. The death toll in the four-day clashes between two rival groups has risen to 105. Hospital sources have confirmed that more than two hundred are injured. NWFP Governor has said that the situation has been created to divert the government’s attention from the Swat operation. A 16-member Jirga from Hangu has also reached Parachinar to convince the two sides to end the fratricidal clashes. Witnesses say that army has been moved in certain areas of Parachinar. Announcements were made from the mosque loudspeakers asking people to stay inside as army have been given shoot-at sight order. Local say an army helicopter also straffed miscreants who remained outside in spite of these warnings, killing two people and injuring six.Most of the people have confined themselves to homes as shelling continues in the area. Food shortages have been created due to the closure of the locals markets. Locals are without electricity since Friday and there is no traffic on the roads. The areas worst-hit by clashes include Balichkhel, Sadda, Arwali, Pewar and Trimangal.
